    Tier 4 Lockbox "Rare and Unique Weapons"

    I recently received a e-mail from Trion concerning purchasing lockboxes for bits. In the E-mail they state how you can get rare and unique weapons out of these boxes, but do they mean only in the tier 4 lock boxes you buy with real money? The entire e-mail is kinda vague so I am looking for some clarification in the following areas;

    1.) Is there a difference between a tier 4 lock box that I pay cash for vs. a Tier 4 I buy in game with keys + credits?

    2.) Are there any true difference between a tier 4 and the substantially cheaper tier 3 other than drop percentages? Like is there a specific group of items I can only get out of a tier 4 lockbox?

    3.) "rare and unique" means to me an item with a cool graphic or unique function. Is this the case or is it just a random generated orange that I could pull in a tier three box if I get lucky?

    As a side note, they should give us a chance at outfits, boosts, etc out of the tier four box since the cost is substantially higher than the current reward(that I am aware of).

    There is nothing unique about the weapons from lockboxes.

    Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

    Rare and unique is just referring to the possible quality of the items.

    No one really knows with lockboxes. Just buy what you feel is lucky for you.

    That's what the email shows.

    Yes. T4 will give you a significantly better chance at getting orange (legendary) weapons. See the link in my sig block below for the probability differences among the tiers.

    Tier four boxes have the highest probability of dropping both orange and high end purple weapons. There is this bad misconception going around these forums that more chances at lower odds is preferable to fewer attempts, but with higher odds. Honestly it is a failure of deductive reasoning, but a understandable one. Players often get frustrated by a few failed attempts, and in their frustration they decide to go with their gut. Which tells them to do the absolute wrong thing. This is really the reason that casinos are able to fleece so many people.

    Our guts and our instincts cut their teeth in the natural world. Where maximizing the amount of attempts really can increase the odds of success. We are really wired to think like that. After all the more chances we take at a thing the better we get at doing that thing. So the more likely we are to be successful. When it comes to pure chance though that doesn't work. The probability remains the same no matter how many attempts are made. So in the long run the guy buying at a fifteen percent probability will have far more success then the guy who is out there buying at a five percent probability even if he buys much more doing so.

    Like it or not if you want to have a lot of orange weapons you need to buying tier four lock boxes. Buying the tier three lock boxes is actually playing longer odds. That said in a way tier four lock boxes do actually offer a better real value even if you don't draw a orange weapon, because if you fail to get one. Chances are pretty high that the consolation prize the game will give you is a decent purple weapon. Which is not only a cut above most, but also has a higher resale value on the vendors.

    I seriously doubt that buying the box with real world money will net you better odds. I don't think the game uses separate random generators depending on how you pay, and even if it did it would cause such an outrage about the unfairness of it all that players would leave the game in droves. Even if they weren't apt to buy any of the items in the games store. They are still potential customers for the games expansions.

    As for rare and unique that is fairly subjective. You aren't likely to get an insane light show that is unavailable to other players, but some of the better weapons do change the way the game is played. For instance shotguns that are orange or purple may have bigger magazines, faster reloads, or fire rates.
