    Code Geass

    D.Gray-Man
    Black Butler
    Darker than Black
    Death Note
    Soul Eater

    I know... So mainstream.

Basilisk is a good anime but personally I got bored of it after like 7 episodes. xD

I prefer the more story driven animes like:

    1. Elfenlied ( sadest piece of movie history for myself ;> )
    2. Code Geass (has it's moments even if you're dislike the whole mecha thing it's still great and on pair with death note)
    3. Death Note ( a bit overhyped but still very thrilling at least until "that" moment)
    4. Fate stay night/Fate zero (just epic even with the loli content in the second season^^)
    5. Bleach ( I just like the wicked characters: - Mayuri/Kenpachi/Hichigo, they're clearly fun)
    6. Black Lagoon (german voice acting was sooooo good there, even if it's normally really bad ^^)
    7. Full Metal Alchemist Brootherhood (way better than the first one)
    8. Samurai Champloo (funny as hell)
    9. Monster (really sick and surprisingly long for such an complex and story driven anime)
    10. Full Metal Panic ( One word: Poooooonnnny!!1 xDD )

Okay a few of those are not really story driven but most of them are. (6 and 10 not)

Must admit, it was a middle school/high school friend of mine that got me into it. It was one of the first shows of that type that I can remember watching where lead characters were being wiped out...without apology lol. I wasn't a part of the fan club (do I need to turn in my fan card? ) but I do remember having the collectable book that was out at that time (though it felt more like an encyclopedia) and still have the first few dvd box sets (which I still need to complete). He also got me into Bubblegum Crisis and both of us played the hell out of the old Fist of the North Star sega game. I'll never forget the first time I saw that one, and Rei starts filleting people with his fingers, my eyes got really big, I chuckled, and instantly knew I was hooked.

We'd get together at lunch time and go over game ideas/strategies and talk about the animes we were watching at that time.
He could draw exceptionally well and I, at that time, was pretty mean with putting stories together. We had a notebook that he'd draw in and I'd collaborate with him on character bio's and backstories. Street Fighter, and arcades in general, were huge back then and we'd head out to the nearest arcade (either the pier or the one on the base where you could get six credits for a quarter) and just run people. Between the two of us, we hardly ever lost lol. Like you said in your post..."Ah, the good ol' days." Good times indeed.

Sorry about the nostalgia derail but again, you've brought back (happy) memories that I had long since forgotten. For that I sincerely thank you.

    .

I was actually satisifed with the ending as I am with most anime shows that have so much more to tell. I don't read Manga so I don't get upset like most fans.

Another anime I forgot to mention that I really like is Deadman Wonderland.
