This comes with the territory of being "first", I'm afraid. As games become more and more complex, there will always be unforeseen issues as the technology used to drive the game pushes further and further to the edge. Considering all of the moving parts this game has (open world, ongoing live events, massively-multiplayer, etc) invariably there will be crashes and issues with the server. Add to it those who might try to find every exploitable issue banging away on the game and those not really playing the game as intended also trying to find or break the game... eventually the game will break. Obviously, that is what happened on the NA PC servers and hopefully the dev team at Trion will be able to get it together and back up.

There are just somethings that cannot be avoided and this, unfortunately, is one of them. Likewise, how people who are playing the game react is something they cannot control or avoid. Yes, we have a stake in what happens -- Defiance is a game we purchased and want to play -- however, in the larger context of things a lot of people on the dev team and at Trion in general have a bigger stake to worry about because this game is their livelihood -- how they make their money, put food on the table, and a roof over their head. Also, many of the dev team have probably been living, eating, and breathing this game for the better part of two years.

I agree that there is a frustration of not being able to play when I want to or when I have time but considering the game is still just getting off the ground and it is dealing with a bunch of new challenges that the devs haven't seen before up-close, I can afford to give it a bit more time before my patience is really taxed...

Get over it, it is 3+ weeks later. You dropped $60, I can drop that in the first hour at a bar. The game was worth the $60. If you want to protest, don't buy any real money items, that is what will keep this game alive, not your protest.

I enjoy the pvp though I am still not very good at it. I like the contracts as well, and rock at those! I don't like the Ark Falls, they seem to last far longer than the rewards given, and are pretty boring to be honest.

I am overall pretty dissatisfied with the game thus far; game management has been very lacking, but I am willing to ride it out and spend more money on bits until either: a. the game becomes unbearable, b. a better game comes out (ESO!), or c. the game gets better (which is possible with support).

The concept is great. I love the tie in to the tv show, and have high hopes for the game!

I guess you have to determine if you have really been "screwed over". I got McDonald's today and paid for tomato to be added to my quarter pounder with cheese. When I got home I noticed the tomato was NOT on the burger so I went back to McDonald's and burned it to the ground. Seemed an appropriate response.

Speak with the retailer that sold you the copy, and calmly explain what happened. It's up to them to process the refund or not, and many times they won't due to policy, but some places are willing to work with you.

Don't accept "**** happens" as posted repeatedly in this thread. You have no reason to settle for anything you personally don't feel is your money's worth.

Wow, only burned it down? I used a howitzer and did the entire city block when McDonalds here forgot my ketchup I ordered to be included in the bag of my fries. You were too soft.

Is this an older generation thing? So easy to just demand things of others? Are we becoming that radical that we want to demand freebees every time something isn't to our satisfaction? I remember that no mmo has ever been released with no issues. Heck, Blizzard made their name on it, they would say "Not till it's ready", but then they released Diablo 3 anyway. What should one expect after paying $60? A team of devs that work hard to work out all of the kinks after a release. I always demand that people try hard at what they do. Of myself, of my children, of those I manage, and certainly of the people who's products I pay for. Now if this set me back financially, then there is plenty to complain about.

You spent 60$ the first hour at the bar? I dropped a hundred when I was in the grands then the ladies left and I started cutting back on the Champagne room rent.

Services go down, it doesn't mean you get a refund. That would actually be unfair on trion since you had use and enjoyment out of the game for its off hours. Compensation is unrealistic too outside perhaps some sort of in game reward like a lock box.

Actually he/she can by getting the bank that their credit card is drawn on to file a fraud complaint with the merchant. In my experience that does get your money back "right now" pending an investigation by the bank and 90% of the time the buyer gets the refund. Most retailers, no matter how big they think they are, they don't like to mess with the guys that control the credit cards.

However, if the buyer bothered to read the "End User License Agreement and the Terms of Use" statements, they may find that legally they don't have a leg to stand on. BTW for those that don't know what I am referring to, its that thing you didn't bother to read when you clicked or checked the box t that stated " I Agree" Agreeing to all those words that you'd need a lawyer to explain, in most cases, absolves most gaming companies of all liabilities that the buyer may "claim!"

Some of which I'll list here: Talking to your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, going outside and not being frightened by that bright light in the sky ( if its day time), sitting at a table and eating food out of plate instead of a bag, washing might be a novel idea, getting dressed, playing with your dog, cat, Mother In-Law, or replying to these posts because I to have failed to do most of things on my own list :P
