[PS3] Problems: Controller Deadzones, aiming assist, shotgun reloading

    * I notice the analogue sticks on the PS3 controller are suffering from poorly configured deadzones and sensitivity. When the analogue sticks are returned to centre the game is not interpreting that correctly and leads to your character continuing to run forward (left stick) or your aiming direction continues to drift (right stick). Also, at close to centre, aiming is too sensitive and makes targeting difficult as it tends to drift all over the place especially with aim assist turned off.

    * Aiming assist is also a bit wonky, as sometimes aiming at an enemy using aim assist leaves your sights slightly above the enemy, leading to shooting above and never hitting the enemy.

    * Last couple of days I noticed for the first time my shotgun starting to get stuck in a constant cycle of trying to reload when out of bullets. It starts reloading and when its fully reloaded it jumps back to having zero bullets and does the whole reload sequence again.

Not really, apart from when looking at a pursuit which has a costume to unlock (co-op pursuits for example) it is hard to turn my character and will only do so in a very specific spot. The reloading troubles though, I've had plenty, not so much with shotguns as I rarely use them, but with my beloved Light Machine Guns. It seems to be a lot better recently but still there are moments where I will have to reload twice. I think it depends a lot on whether you are holding R1 (or whatever it is to fire on different platforms) and or just trying to carry on firing as soon as you can. I find that if you just hit reload once, be patient, let the animation finish properly then you shouldn't have a problem, at least I don't. Bear in mind various things can interrupt you, rolling, taking damage...

If you feel the stick is too sensitive, try lowering the sensitivity in the controller options. But as far as your other controller problems go, it sounds like your analogue sticks are worn out. Which means it's time to buy a new controller. It happens over time, especially if you press the stick harder during tense situations. You won't run any faster no matter how hard you cram that stick forward.

Aim assist is a little wonky, but I personally think that's because the targeting priority is a little off.

As far as the reloading goes, there's a whole list of things that interrupt and/or cause a second reload to occur. The only way to avoid it is not remember to not reload while:

    Throwing a grenade
Interacting with a person or object (e.g. ammo box, revive player)
    Using a dodge roll
    Activating decoy, blur, or cloak
    Teleporting w/ Decoy

Also, getting hit with strong attacks will interrupt you and force you to reload again.
    Attacks like:

    Explosions
    Hell bug screams
    Hell bug swipes
    Shotgun blasts
    ect...

All these things will either interrupt your reload or cause your reload sequence to be void.

Basically, when you reload you can't do anything other then run & jump or take cover.

Once you get used to it, it's not so bad.

Sry didnt explain the sensitivity problem too well. It happens when you zoom to aiming down your sights, the aim becomes much more sensitive and is difficult to control.

As for my analogue sticks, all I can say is this problem doesn't exist in any of my other games. It is most definately the deadzones being configured incorrectly. When I let go of the left stick and it returns to centre my character should stop running or moving forward which it doesn't. Similar for the right aim stick, sometimes when returned to centre it continues to drift.

Again I will stress that this deadzone problem for the analogue sticks DOESN'T occur with other games I play.

So I find myself having to constantly correct my movement and aiming, by nudging the sticks arround the centre zone until the game registers the sticks as centred.

Again I will stress that this deadzone problem for the analogue sticks DOESN'T occur with other games I play.

Sry for the repetition but I felt the point needed to get across.

I have the same problem with the analog sticks on my PS3 controller. The only difference with me is I actually have to pull the stick back a little to make my character stop. This problem is really annoying especially when sniping or trying to get good accuracy as it keeps making my character walk forward. Another weird thing with this problem is that if I don't make sure my character is completely stopped, when I enter any menu or access the map, my character keeps moving forward until it hits a wall and stops or goes too far in the water and dies.

Seems legit to me, you're either stopping the reload to do something else or get staggered by an enemy

But if you manage to reload your gun to have a full complement (or any number) of bullets and you get shot by the enemy, why should that reset your bullet reserves back to zero? Surely if the reloading has been done the bullets are in there and rdy for firing, they can't suddenly jump out of your gun because you were under fire or being interrupted.

Again, just from personal experience, I notice that happen to me when I activate an ego power during my reload. The client doesn't seem to register the interrupt but once the reload ends and the clip is full, it resets back and I'm forced to reload again. I avoid that by not using ego powers while reloading. (except Overcharge)

I also understand that your not having dead zone problems in other games. I respect that. But I had the exact same problem with dead zones in Boarderlands 2, so I got a new controller. Which fixed my problem there, and I have no such problems in this game. When I let go, I stop running and my aim doesn't drift.

I admit that this game is more sensitive than most other shooters, but its not game breaking for me personally. Obviously I can't speak for anyone else.

Either way, good luck. I hope your experience improves in the future.
