Well sand is a major component in sement so id say im of to a good start.
Edit: fair enough Cutlass eq was a very poor comparison in this case, that said there are mmo's that have singleplayer instances in the main story (Age of conan, Lotro had them also)
I am not gonna argue that these instances shouldn't be possible to do as a group, cause they really should.
But saying its not mmo is wrong.
While I have no issue with the bosses being soloable (I have no desire to be forced to team to progress) I would also be perfectly happy if the solo instances were not solo only - i.e. if you were in a team you could all enter the same instance and (assuming the other people are also on the quest) progress your quests.
:edit:
People who make up definitions to suit their argument kill me, it happens most often with "MMO" "Pay2Win" and "Immersion".
It's like claiming a game isn't free to play because you have to pay for the computer, the phone line, the internet connection and the electricity.
YES, I have a problem with going through the Story mode with friends only to find myself fighting the main Boss at the end Solo. It takes the fun away from the game as far as I'm concerned. I'll give them a few months to figure it all out though, it's your typical MMO, Takes them awhile to figure out what the Fan base truly wants.
Thank you!!
7 co-op instances is not a few. It is their version of a shooter based dungeon and these all require groups. The main missions are solo content and some have bosses. Unfortunately, this is a trend for MMOs launching in the last few years. Personal story content is sometimes solo only.
While I agree that all missions in a MMO should allow for grouping, I do not agree with your statement that "all major Boss fights" in Defiance are solo. Motherlode for example is an interesting major boss fight. You can only experience it in a co-op group-based instance. Also, you make no mention of the encounters in the open world that benefit from groups.
As I said, the trend for newer MMOs is to have solo friendly content. And therefore, some create solo only instances. It is also a trend that they are moving away from large group raid style content. Even WOW has reduced the group size for its raids.
There are only two bosses in the entire game that require you to fight them solo: Jackleg Joe and Nim Shondu. Every other boss in the game is fought in groups, either in arkfalls, during co-op'able story missions, or in co-op only raid maps. You can solo any boss in the game, except maybe for hellions, but that's due to the game's scaling mechanics.
