    Future PS3 patching question

Was just wondering if in the future the patches for ps3 are going to be submitted earlier to Sony or are we goin to be weeks behind pc and Xbox and worst of all the show, each and every patch?

Don't think it's right that we should have to have spoilers from 3 different angles at this rate going of this patch debacle ps3 users won't really need to play the game to know the story line / content of any future updates.

So as you (Trion) know what the Sony process is for getting out updates are you going to submit the next round of patches for ps3 earlier so we get it at the same time as the other users?

I mean I'm pretty sure that you were we'll aware of ps3 process before launch day / patch day, so it is rather annoying that in all your posts before patch day (15th/16th) that you didn't mention once ps3 weren't getting any love. We were just left to believe that everything was Rosie then as a second thought told about 12 hours before that we weren't gonna be getting anything apart from the shaft perhaps.

So back to the question, what can we expect from future patching timeline wise? Is it worth us hoping that we won't have to avoid forums / Facebook / twitter / and the TV show for weeks after each patch or will we get them at the same time now that you should have learnt from your first Sony ps3 patch experience?

I mean god forbid you even consider delaying patches for your other platforms so that your entire community is on the same page and you don't end up in a situation where everyone has access to the content at the same time!

So what you say Trion is this patch the sign of things to come for us ps3 users or a one off?

Considering that this is Trion's first console ported game (their other two, Rifts and End of Nations, are PC-only), a lot of the submission processes for PSN and XBL are new to them. Because of that, while they may have hired some personnel who are versed in those areas, the company as a whole are working in highly uncharted territory for them. Until they get used to the conversion processes necessary to create the PSN client easily, we will probably see some delays on submission for maybe one or two more cycles. Another thing to know is that PSN is very draconian about their policies, even with their own subsidiaries and patches or other submissions have to fit into their calendar which means that they can be embargoed for upwards to a week before release. Typically, unless the updates are server-side distributed (meaning that the updates are coming directly from Trion and won't change the executable client already installed on your PS3), new clients are released on Tuesdays along with the new releases unless some other arrangement is negotiated in advance.

The options Trion has is to either delay the patch deployment so that all versions get it at the same time (which would anger PC and XBL customers) or bite the bullet and allow the PS3 patches to deploy slightly behind the others until they can figure out a way to get them all up to speed submission-wise. As with anything, the submission process will take a little bit of work to get ironed out -- maybe another 2 or 3 patches but they should eventually have everyone on the same timetable.

I can see what your saying but I disagree to a certain extent.

To believe that Trion weren't prepared for the way Sony updates and patches were done cant be right....can it?

Damn if Trion really had no clue about the ps3 patching system / process until two days before the actual patch (when they mentioned ps3 weren't getting it) were all in a lot more trouble than we can see right now.

They've been developing this game for the the ps3 for years so there's no excuse, they should and more than Likely did know and understand the patch process if they didn't then that shows incompetence at a much higher level than a few silly bugs in game IMO

I hope what you say isn't the case as that would destroy any confidence I've got left in Trion managing this title

Releasing a game and planning dlc for it for a console that you didn't even bother to research or become experts in smacks of stupidity IMO

Be thankful that we didn't get the patch. Consider than both pc and xbox are having difficulties since patch went live. I would wait longer for a patch knowing that it, when it does arrive it's in better format than it was uploaded in the 1st place

So because Xbox and pc got screwed over and got a bad patch it makes it Okies to forget about ps3 users and leave them guessing?

Not fussed about patch tbh it's the continuity from show to ps3 game and time line mainly, the fact well be able to hear everything about all future content week or weeks before its even close to being launched on ps3 and Trion doesn't seem to have anything to say about that.

There are different types of patches; content and fixes. One doesn't guarantee the other and this patch is a bunch of fixes.
When content patches drop (new DLC, missions ETC) they are generally released at the same time.

They weren't for the last cross platform mmo on ps3 but I'd love Trion to confirm this as that would mean the communication is getting better!

I defer to your expertise on cross-platform MMO's of the past. I don't generally play MMO's as I generally play FPS shooters.

Most of the content drops in my experience has been roughly the same time unless Microsoft or Sony have deals with publishers to get early content. Xbox had COD content early because of a deal and PS3 had early content deal with EA for BF3 content.

Don't have expertise was just making a point and as for the above....fantastic, irrelevant but fantastic!
