    Wolfhounds seem unbelievably good.

(For PvE) This gun seems like it outclasses every other pistol and honestly seems like one of the greatest guns out there. It only takes a couple shots, without mods or stat rolls, to take out most of a Forges or Monarchs health if you're hitting a weakspot . Granted, when not shooting weakspots it seems pretty sub-par compared to rifles, but as an alternate it seems incredibly amazing.

Anyone else agree with me? I just discovered this today and I'm surprised no one has said anything, all I hear about is SAW this, SAW that.

On another note, I'm glad I've been trying to max out all the weapon skills. It exposes you to a lot of weapons that you'd pass on, as anything you come by is generally worth trying out to see if it is a fast way to level.

my fav is the heavy assault rifle. its like a single shot sniper machine gun that shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger. i just got another 1 of them today and was sooooooo happy. dropped leveling all other guns till it maxes again then i will be very sad again.

Wolfhounds and Flare gun. I only keep these two. I'd about 10 of them in my inventory waiting for level.

Weve had a few discussions about pistols, mainly due to people creating threads because "OMG pistols are useless why would anyone use them", then they get corrected. Granted a couple of the types are pretty useless in most situations, but for the most part if youre good at critting theyre extremely powerful.

Good way to look at them in terms people can understand from an MMORPG is theyre sort of the "daggers" of Defiance. Closer range, not all that powerful in straight up normal damage, but high crits make them deadly. If youve got a nice crit build (+crit perks, +crit mods, overcharge or stealth + 30% damage, etc) and are effective at landing crits you will destroy things very easily. Especially since some of them, like wolfhound, have a higher base crit than any other types besides sniper. So any +crit perks and +crit mods have an even greater effect with pistols than say an AR, SAW, etc with like a 1.5x base crit. With proper modding, use of crit perks, the luck of crit bonuses built into the gun already, and another crit bonus upon maxing XP you can pretty easily get something like 6x crit with a wolfhound. Best youll get with an AR is around 2x.

Prefer that heavy assault carbine myself too when it comes to ARs. Unfortunately it also has only a 1.5x crit (same as the autos), but with the speed and base damage it can still put out decent damage and is more accurate than the other ARs. Been trying to get a hold of a burst mod to throw on one and try out though.

I find them extremely useful for the head removal of those pesky dark matter! They are fantastic weapons, I have about 3 in my inventory at any one time.

I tried it and I match rather use extended mag over it. The DPS does not change.

Yes, I am a avid Wolfhound user...please stop spreading the secret that it is probably one of the best weapons in the game...

Alright, I figured out why nobody talks about it... terrible dropoff damage. For doing emergencies this gun is fantastic, but trying to shoot at range is awful, even if the gun is supposed to be useful for "precision shooting". I'll probably stick to my TACC rifle for ranged shooting (infinite range for the win).

Your rifle has falloff too, its just much farther than a pistol. Even at a pretty decent range though you can still put out pretty similar damage to an AR if you land consistent crits. If youre not landing those crits though, then yeah your damage suffers a lot.

Not my TACC rifle, no. It has no falloff. Try it out. The problem with shooting at range with it is that it has bloom and it always shoots a 3 shot burst suffering bloom in the second and third rounds in each burst.
