Wolfhounds pretty nice. I've got a pistol that pulls native double taps with a 2.2x crit modifier.. that's pretty wicked as well, especially with -bloom/-recoil mods in it.. double tapping head crits is easy, and crazy fun. But I think pistols in this game, in general, get a bad reputation. To really make them work "Top Notch".. you've got to hit crits, and that requires some skill to pull off.

I never see pistols in PVP. I tried them with a "think outside the box" approach, but the bunny hopping makes it a challenege to aim, especially while you are being shotgunned to death. I will say if you get a few clean shots off, they almost always crit or headshot.

Yeah, the wolfhound is leauges better than the other pistols.
I wish there was a really good revolver, not just the knockdown gun with abysmal damage and the "jebus this is slow!" one.

FRC Bull Rush and VBI Tacc Autopistol are quite good as well.
Detu Ara's kind - the VOT Blaster - is very good with siphon and radiation elemental effects and at close range the highest DPS weapon in the game. It's also eats through ammo like nothing else, making it a very good off weapon choice if you run a sniper, LMG or detonator as main choice.

Flare, VBI Autopistol and the FRC one with 0.8 rate of fire aren't really competetive though.
Flare was nice, but a cutdown of the direct damage by around 50% might have been a bit too much ... it was a niche weapon to begin with, with very odd aiming and limited range ... nothing that can compete with Cluster Shot shotguns or Ground Pounder launchers now. It's design is still really nice and if I'd find another one I'll probably use it to level it up, but it's not one of the choices I'd keep around for when I hit weapon level 20.

Impossible. If it's not a Techmag Pulser or shtogun it's worthless right now.
Shadow wars are a bit different, but they are rare and you're dependent on not getting on the losing team and your personal performance won't really impact the outcome. Pistols are probably even worse there though. ;>

You are wrong. Every weapon but LMGs and the sniper rifles have falloff. You simply never shot a target that was far away enough to see the effect.
The most common occasion where AR falloff comes into play is the Scrapyard coop, where you can stand on the ledge and shoot down on the last group of Dark Matter mobs that guard the core. You will not deal full damage to the ones further away if you stay up there.

There's a couple of revolvers out there that have crazy amounts of damage. But that reload.. yeah.. hideous. But it IS a revolver.. it's not supposed to reload in a snap like an ACP would. I personally avoid them, because of the reload.

I swap between Wolverine and Wolfhound pistols and I still don't know which I prefer lol. The Wolverine seems to rip raiders a new one while the Wolfhound seems better for Dark Matter.

Reloads really should be faster than a rifle though.

Unless it has been very recently patched... you don't know what you're talking about. Go shoot at anything with a TACC rifle at any visible distance and you won't get damage dropoff.

Yeah, one revolver has really good damage, but you might aswell use a bolt action sniper rifle, it's almost as fast and has the same capacity and much better range/accuracy.
If the frontier revolver fired twice as fast it would be pretty nice.

    Protip:
How to use Bullet Rush pistols.

Step. 1) Go into your perk-tree
Step. 2) Put 3 points into "Intimidation" (Blur-> right side)
    Step. 3) Equip the perk.

    Hit twice.
