What we learned Episode 2

Ok, its time again for a 'What we learned' from Defiance. This one will be long and will contain pictures. Just a reminder, everything I post is sourced from either the show or the devs. If its an opinion, I will state that. I look forward to the lively discussion.

So we learned on this episode:

1. Rayetso is the name of the Castitian god
2. The Castitian society is structured similar to the Indian (not Native American) society in that it has castes,
3. A Castitian only move upward in caste due to marriage
4. Datak is an interstellar Jack Dawson having won his passage in gambling
5. This makes Stahma, Rose DeWitt Bukater only she pushed her Caledon Hockley out of an airlock on his way to a blood duel. (awesome PVP idea)
6. Desertion breaks Castitian law as it reflects poorly on the whole Liro (IE caste)
7. The punishment is drawn and then stretched on a rack until I guess death via weight. (the event wasn't completed so we don't know if Elam would have died on the rack or not)
8. Fesho is Castitian for spirit and they believe in an afterlife. It should be almost full with the bulk of all of them in it now.
9. Indogene have hexagonal skin patterns
10. St. Louis was abandoned before arkfall and remained uninhabited. Defiance was built above it in starting in 2036 and formally established in 2038
11. The city was folded over just west of the arch. (according to Rafe and his maps)
12. The Arch itself was lifted from beneath the arch's foundations up at least 200 ft (arch is above the rats nest floor which is at least 600 ft down because several building in St. Louis are taller than the arch)
13. Jefferson park is name of the park the Arch sits in. The area that Nolan was commenting on was could not be it as the Arch was uplifted and that event destroyed the surrounding foliage. Plus the buildings surrounding them suggests he is west of the Arch in Kaufman park. I can be wrong.

14. I was wrong about the Mississippi being rerouted due to arkfall. It was diverted. Big difference. Old St. Louis has the piece still with water and river boats in it. Also there is a waterfall inside the area.
15. Because of this and the fact that a good portion for the city is still intact. It is possible that people are still living down there. Prior to the L9 collapse it was a faster route out. L9 was also abandoned so escape could have gone unnoticed.
16. Hellbugs are in the city though, as are birds. Look at the area below the stop light. 24:58 on DVR
17. Rafe McCawley's father was 'Chow Down' Brown McCawley who made dog food. Which means Rafe has no experience mining other that what he leaned. He does know photography.
18. Power sources do exist in old St. Louis as well.
19. The nuclear power plant is in the city in the part that is in Illinois. The bridge can be Martin Luther King but considering the Pale war it could be a replacement for the destroyed MLK
20. Irathient don't Immunize their children. It wasn't explained why however it might be religious.
21. There were over 1000 Irathient in Defiance when it was founded in 2036. The refusal to immunize lead to forced immunizations.
22. This lead to an uprising of which the Irathient lost and most died. The others left.
23. Mandatory immunizations are in the town charter as are respect for all species cultures and religions.
24. Cell phone network does exist in defiance however it is small. (most likely one tower and the repeater equipment. A single server could cover the single square mile the city sits in.
25. A phone is called a hailer
26. The arkfall wiped out most American cities
27. Earth Republic still recognizes US and Canadian money. Those are what we call scrip. (why else would he have it hidden?)
28. Two kilos of Gulanite, which glows electric blue, can collapse a mine.
29. Casti is the name of the successfully terraformed planet the indogene used. This planet was colonized by the Castithans and used as their world after they left Daibo the birth world they shared with Indogene. This is most likely the template for what infected Earth.
30. Indogene recognize the Caduceus as a medical symbol as it is on the clinic/hospital
31. This is what the ex-mayor is looking for and Von Bach has.
    He is looking for the sphere that Nolan found in the arkfall outside of Defiance and used to save the city.
32. Promises are shtako. (look at how many Trion has made. Have many have been delivered?)

Casti is the colony world that the Indogene tested their Terraformer on. Wealthy & powerful Castithan families appropriated it for themselves. It is also, I believe, the name of one of the Votanis Collective colonies on Earth.

Regarding #19, They did state in the show that the nuclear power plant was built during the Pale War.

A nice timeline is starting to form for the city:
2036- Founded (was this from the series? I thought the town was founded in 2037)
2038- Mayor Nicolette Reardon elected.
2039- Mass exodus of Irathient
2046- A Volge army defeated at Battle of Defiance

19. The bridge is supposed to be the Martin Luther King bridge what makes you draw that conclusion?

There seems to be no exact bridge such as shown in the footage for a Mississippi bridge it would be far too short, still there seems to be stranded boats in the same footage. There are a few steel arch bridges, but the only one coming close was replaced. Only someone from St. Louis could shed more light on this.

The nuclear power plant as you find out in the game, in the online lore (website tv show) and this tv show has been build during the wars as were many others. This could also mean that it is a new bridge.

Yes. that is true. However, part of St. Louis is in Illinois. So both statements are true.

OK I will agree with that but the most likely place for Nuke plant (considering people protest stupid things now and would continue too is the location I suggested. ) Perhaps the old bridge was destroyed and this is the new one.
