Does anyone have a hi-res hi-def version of the city underground? I think they mashed Clayton (our second city) with St Louis, which would mean the overlap of the land was stronger than thought possible. Due west is the REAL town (here) called Defiance, if the "fold" was strong enough it would have shifted the county over - where people really live here in the suburbs.
Anyway just a theory and stopping the youtube video to look isn't clear enough.
Still being bothered by that Darby Building.
Clearly the cave footage of St. Louis is made to artist impression and probably filled with non existing structures which can be explained by the time span (more buildings).
Most distinctive features we see here are the arc the building just left of it (high building with dome) and the building just right of it (tallest building, green sloped roofs and pointed roof/ black middle section). These exact two buildings from the same view point are in the first footage when the group looks into the cave. Except both buildings are practically next to one another and the dome building is now equally high as the sloped roof building.
The details of the buildings in the show are quite spot on, so the intention is for people to reckoning the scenery if they are familiar with the skyline. The most well known skyline image from st. Louis is the one I linked in this post. That is all it has use to us.
The only important things to know are:
Some bits of the city still intact
only arc got pushed up
Mississippi still runs undergound
Nuclear power plant build up from pale wars, still undergound
Flora and fauna (?) to be found down there.
I don't know if it is said in the show, but I do not think the town defiance is build on top of the old St. Louis. I think defiance must be on the other end of the arc. So Defiance would be build on top of the old Mississippi. reason for this assumption is the streaks of light seen down there and I imagine people in defiance would easily fall down these holes and no such holes have been seen in town so far. The air is quite fresh for flora and fauna(?) to prosper and there seems to be enough light.
I have not finished the game, so I apologize for my ignorance, but the gold thing in the show looked similar to what Von Bach had that made his eyes glow. Also, the video that Twitch.tv releases live after the show may have released a spoiler. The female in the video answered a players question whereas the male said that they were not allowed to answer it. Does anyone know what I am talking about, or should I check the video myself?

Beldhan your last questions have to do with the palewars. Humans allowed some Votan settlements and Votans to be on Earth and the Votans started sharing their technology. Than the war started and due to the harsh conditions of accessing fossil fuels Nuclear power plants were put up, generally close to the place that needed the power. The human means to mend the energy crisis. Such is the lore, it doesn't entirely make sense, but the idea has some merit.
Did you notice they put up lore with each episode?
From episode 2:
Lore: The cleansing rack that Elah Bandik was strung up on is meant to be a spiritual and physical purification for one who has brought great shame to the race (in Elah's case, cowardice in the Battle of the Volge). Fellow Castithans (starting with the culprit's family) take turns adding stones to weigh down the mechanism - to remind the accused that their transgression shames the entire community.
Lore: Castithan society is governed by a strict caste system, called the Fovasho. Layers of society are described like clouds, with the most prestigious castes being the highest. Outcasts are considered to be at ground level. The Castithan word for caste - liro - originally came from a word that meant cloud.
Highlight: The hardest scenes to shoot this episode were the Castithan bathing sequences. Water plus full body make up is a challenge -it required two hour body make up application! Also, the interior of the Tarr house was conceived as if the family lived in a cloud. Remember how Castithan castes are akin to clouds? Not a coincidence.
Lore:The St. Louis nuclear power plant was built by the Earth Military Coalition during the Pale Ward. Global conflict made delivery of fossil fuel to North America difficult. This power plant was built along the Mississippi River, as it offered a convenient cooling source. Ultimately, alien power sources proved easier to maintain and the plant shut down.

Notice the marks on Irisa's wrists? What does that have to do with her comment "I don't like chains"? Something about the Elah Bandik situation was very, very personal for her.... (question is: what's her story?)
Highlight/ Lore: Did you know that each of the alien races had their process who would survive the destruction of their universe and go to Earth? Irathients fought tribal wars and undertook religious rituals, while Indogenes did extensive testing to bring the most intelligent of their kind. Castithans made their decisions based on social status, with only the upper caste journeying. Of course, Datak, despite his humble birth, managed to find his way onto a ship. We're not sure we want to know how (yes we do).
Lore: Irathients were among the first settlers to return to St. Louis after terraforming energy swept the planet. They became farmers and worked the land. The great purge following the vaccination crisis Amanda spoke of (where Irathients refused to great treated for an illness that was killing Irathient kids) is just one of several reasons that the Spirit Riders hate Defiance.
Highlight: The genetic mutations brought on by terraforming killed much of the world's livestock and introduced some bizarre new species. Green eggs are far from the weirdest thing people eat these days. Dr. Suess was sorta prescient, no?
I totally missed the fact that the eggs they are cooking have green yokes :S
Highlight: Ben hinted at Rafe doing something to his wife. Remember that.
Lore: Nolan was a member of the Iron Demons, a special forces unit that saw heavy action during the war. Nolan's buddy Jon Cooper - lawkeeper in the video game - was a member of the same unit. Jon, Nolan and Tork Mork (a character in the video game) were also members of the Defiant Few (those who put down arms against the aliens in the legendary Battle of Defiance). That battle left a lot of scars and not just physical ones.
Highlight: Jaime Murray hails from England (and is quite the quick study in Castithan). For Stahma, she adopted a "mid-Atlantic" accent.
Lore: Castithans are monotheistic. Their god Rayetso is seen as a perfect being. Of course, many Castithans see themselves as "perfect beings" (Datak, we're looking at you). Though, they'd never admit this to the church.
Lore: Gulanite - which Rafe mines - is a powerful raw ore that fuels much of the alien technology used in Defiance. Rafe discovered a large deposit of the stuff and built his mines, which is how Defiance got its start. The gulanite mines are what makes Defiance strategically important.
Highlight: On the busiest crowd day, the hair department created 53 wigs for the Castithans! To make life a little easier, people with light blond hair were selected as extras.
Highlight/ Lore: The McCawley Brand Dog Food jingle, "Chow Down Time," that Nolan sings to Rafe was written especially for the show. If it sounds familiar, it was because it was adapted into the more introspective and melancholy "McCawley Theme" that is woven throughout the series in scenes involving Rafe and family.
Highlight: "Scene that almost was" alert! There was a pitch to have Nolan and Rafe bunker down in a Museum of old St. Louis and debate over which priceless work of art to burn for warmth. Rafe wouldn't dare burn a Picasso, but was fine with torching some of the more modern art.
Highlight/ Lore: According to showrunner Kevin Murphy, the biggest difference between Nolan and Amanda is that "Amanda will usually do what's smart, even if it isn't right, while Nolan will always do what's right, even if it isn't smart."

The Defiance set is truly a town. The exterior set is roughly 190 feet by 300 feet. There are 57 buildings, and most are two stories but some are three. Rest is computer generated, but this gives more information about the town (set) size
Lots of talk about the Earth Republic in the first episode. Earth Republic is a primarily human government based on the Eastern Seaboard. They seek to rebuild North America by signing alliances with many small frontier towns across the country. Of course, not everyone trusts their motives.
The Storm Divide you heard referred to is a huge region covering the middle of North America. It's a wild and dangerous territory full of deadly creatures and freak weather patterns, where most sane people fear to tread.
The info on the map tells us that the UK, Germany, France, Antarctica and Brazil are places of importance. Sulos or central Brazil is most likely where the Votan Coalition is settled probably still very much the anti Earth republic.
Alak and his buddies are playing Ivali, A Castithan card game similar to poker, but instead of two variables (numbers and suits), it's played with three (numbers, elements and planets). "Ivali" means "colonization" in Castithan. Presumably strip Ivali can also be played.
In one of the earliest drafts of Defiance, Nolan had been in town for 15 years and had an adult daughter who married an alien (which didn't please him). Irisa was a bubby-girly girl alien that collected Monk novelizations and watched Jane Fonda workout tapes on VHS (!). Inspired by the movie Paper Moon, Executive Producer Kevin Murphy shaped the story so Nolan and Irisa became rough and tumble, surrogate father-daughter badasses.

a few of us asked a question on the chat monday night, about the device and wether it was a genuine ark core.......they said yes.....(well...not so much a "yes", but more like "that's an ark core thingy, but we're not supposed to tell you that because it would be a spoiler" make what you will of it....i think it's an ark core...it's about the right shape to fit that hexagonal bowl thingy von bach was holding in his hand during the first few missions.)

Their attention to detail using more than just that skyline is obvious, I could see several buildings that ARE here in St Louis that non-stl people wouldn't notice - which makes me love the show even more every episode. Its not. Von Bach is after an ark-core (and matrix and cell) to terraform. The Kaziri is something else.
