Why should I play this game?

Hello everyone! I've been kinda window shopping and every time I see this game I look at it thinking of how much fun it could possibly be, but I remain skeptical. This happened to me with other MMOs recently such as The Secret World and Guild Wars 2. Don't get me wrong, both are great games and have a lot of potential, but they didn't seem to be what I was looking for.

Most recently I've been playing a game called All Points Bulletin: Reloaded which is MMO third person shooter, but the gameplay is fundamentally broken. I love MMO shooters, so this game really caught my eye. I'm especially drawn in because I love the SyFy channel too.

Why should I play this game though? It seems really good, but the skeptic inside me is yelling, "DON'T BUY IT! THIS GAME WILL DISAPPOINT YOU!"

Are there enough people playing this game? Is the game 'balanced'? Is there a lot of content? Feedback appreciated.

It's difficult to answer your questions, there is currently a NDA on the alpha. And 3rd beta hasn't started yet for pc so I don't know what information is ok to tell and what isn't. But I can give you some links to videos of gameplay, maybe those will help you make up your mind.

http://www.twitch.tv/trionworlds/old - This is the livestream channel for Trion Worlds the developer behind Defiance. They play the game every week and show some stuff off. Wed shows are all defiance related and go through the beginning of the story for a couple weeks or so. Friday shows tend to be 1 hour of Rift Half hour break 1 Hour of Warface Half hour break and 1 Hour of Defiance. So might want to skip to roughly the 3 hour mark for defiance related gameplay.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFTRgWhLcVs This video is a hands on preview with defiance made by IGN. They show some missions, some pvp and some coop missions. It is a little of everything and doesn't require as much time to watch as the archived livestreams.

Only way to truly answer your question is to try out the game... head to http://www.defiance.com/beta and signup for our Advanced Mission beta 3 which is kicking off int he coming day on PC and Xbox and is live on PS3.

    Or

You can take my word for it... The game is hella fun to play and this community is amazing.

I'll tell you in two days whether or not it is balanced. But what I can tell you now is that the shooting looks just as good as any other TPS. You'll also be able to mix combat up with EGO powers and perks to enhance your character. Don't know exact amounts, but I do know that on the 360 alone in NA, there are around 32,000 pre-orders. A lot of content? Try 14 different types of guns(from pistols, shotguns, and ARs to Infectors, Detonators, and BMGs), weapon and normal leveling, hundreds of different outfits/headgear, Seven different enemy groups(from lowly Marauders to the deadly Hellbugs), side missions, main missions, instances, PVE, PVP, clans, clan wars, and dynamic Arkfall events. Really, the question you should be asking is "Why SHOULDN'T I buy this game?".

"The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed?"

An open ended question cannot lead you to a specific answer, as we can only offer opinions.

Define enough? There are over 30k Xbox Pre-orders, PC unknown, fewer PS3 pre-orders.

Balanced? The goal is to truly reward skill merely over the gathering of gear and time played. So there is some form of balance.

Content is in the eye of the beholder, what is a lot to some may seem little to others. Currently we've seen the map of only the second zone when the game starts, it is a very large area and can take some time to traverse in a vehicles and a long time on foot. I'm sure there are scale measurements out there somewhere. As for game play it's a TPS and has tons of weapons, weapon mods, cosmetic customization, vehicles... oh and it ties to a television show for so that it has an expanding world and unique IP.

    But again, just my opinion.

PvE balance... I consider myself a fairly decent player when it comes to shooters and so far I have found the difficulty to be mid to high difficulty while going around solo.

    Haven't tried PvP yet.

and I am falling asleep as I type and I have to be up in.. 3 and half hours.. sooo goodnight all.

Erm, ever since my really BAD experiences with games like The Secret World as far as difficulty goes... when you say mid to high difficulty... are you referring to levels of pulling your hair out and cursing like a disowned rabbi... or just more along the levels of, "holy crap Batman, that was close"?

(Solo is usually the way I play mostly... I just like the large/huge worlds that come with MMOs typically... don't mind teaming occasionally with people I know or get to know... but random groups are a lot like going all the way on the first date... you never know what you're gonna' get...)
