The system used to advance in this game, EGO, is not at all like what a normal MMO player would think of as leveling. The term is simply used to get the point across that you will be advancing your character on an experience based system. This gets the point across and is easily understood by the masses. It's much more simple and more accurate than saying, "Well, you wont 'level' your character per say, you kinda will but it's not like WoW leveling, it's different".

When you create a character, there are a number of different categories to choose from in the top left corner of the screen. You can change everything from face shape, to skin tone, to eye color, nose and mouth shape, tattoos, warpaint, and a number of other options. Go check it out, I'll wait.

I don't notice leveling because even if I get more powerful, the game never gets hard enough to notice. I have to cloak so rarely in PVE I barely notice a 31 sec cd. My 1000 EGO weapon is functionally identical to the 500 one I used to have but vendored. Your insistence that this is character advancement is unsurprising considering you think being able to make a unique character exactly like someone else is appropriate use of the word.

Why do I have to go look? No amount of tattoos or face shape is going to make a character unique. You can go look at the word's definition if you want. I'll wait

I can agree, in my experience, that the game is lacking in any extremely challenging content. Others would disagree with this assessment but, hey...
I have built my cloaking class to make it advantageous to use the power. I have increased damage and power duration extension on a critical kill. This tends to make me use the power more than one would generally need to.
I am actually using a pump shotgun that I got when I had an EGO rating of 94. Some weapons are better than others. I actually like the fact that acquiring better weaponry comes from playing the game as opposed to playing it for long enough to be OP.

Please, tell me what it takes in creating a character that would make it unique in your eyes? Does it need fingerprints? What would one expect in a character creation interface for an MMO? You have to remember that no matter what, the game has to be able to load a character's model and outfit very quickly in order to keep you from being a model running around on someone's screen and all of a sudden fleshing out as the data is loaded. There is a fine line in MMOs as to how many variations of each body feature one model can have while also being able to load that data to others quickly.

I didn't have to "go look" I simply brought the information to the table to make sure we were using the same definition.

Given that in all there are 111 unique options you can choose while customizing a character in Defiance, and you make 16 different choices with those options:

Using the following formula for combinations and permutations,

Where n= the 111 different options you have and r=the 16 options you may have per combination.
That comes out to 8.15683378e+18 which is 8,1568,33,787,798,824,590 unique combinations to make your character UNIQUE.

I'd say there are some pretty unique characters in the world. But anyway, I'm done now. Sorry, but I had to go there.
