    This communities thoughts on gifting.

This game has pretty much run its coarse for me. I don't really feel any compulsion to continue playing, and no I don't feel cheated in the slightest. I had the feeling at the outset that this was going to be a short fling kind of a game, but I feel I got my moneys worth it kept me at least mildly entertained for a few weeks. I went online today and ordered a copy of Dead Island Riptide, and I feel pretty good about the order seeing as I got a good amount of play out of the first, and a lot of my friends are probably going to play the sequel. It will be coming tomorrow.

So tonight I was thinking I would gift my in game collection of items away. Don't bother asking for them. I made a couple friends in this game, and I would like them to have them. I have five orange weapons, a dozen purple weapons/items, and over a hundred thousand in scrip. I think they are going to play this game for a few more weeks. So they will definitely get some good use out of them.

My question to this community is this, and I want to do right by this community is. Do you feel in any way that this will hurt your own experience with the game. Like I may be giving them a unfair advantage, or that it will diminish the value of your gear? I personally don't have any intention of coming back to the game. I had some fun while I was here, but the way the game plays has stopped being fun for me, and no content that could be added will change that. So please don't bring up the just in case argument.

Do you think this will hurt you, hurt the game, or damage the games economy. What little there is of it. What I want to know I suppose is if you would prefer me to take my ball with me when I leave, or leave it with my in game friends. Would it be better for leaving players to leave a surplus of orange/purple gear to those that are staying behind?

I can see the ethical dilemma that you're facing.

The only clear course of action would be to give all of those items and scrip to me. I can help put your conscience at ease ;]

Nope, hopefully you will make a "Pass it on" occurance happen in Defiance. Mainly everyone needs an added trump card when dealing with The RNG and its % chances on finding Oranges and Purples.

That is definitely a interesting perspective. Do you feel it has grown out of the developers propensity towards gouge mining their own game for additional profits. It really hadn't occurred to me that I might be sticking it more to the system then the players. Now that is a interesting notion. That by doing this I could really stick it to the man on my way out. You know you kind of have a point. If everyone leaving does as I intend to do. Then this will throw a real monkey wrench in the lock box selling scheme. I might even effectively be protecting you guys from them. You definitely have me leaning that way.

You know what I think I might spend my last day playing Santa Claus in game. Just randomly giving other players money. Hey I think I can have a bit more fun with this game before I leave. Thanks for the idea.

I have always gifted on MMOs. I started way back on EQ. When I saw someone do something nice or noteworthy I would give them I rare weapon or something. It's also fun going to the newbie areas where new characters start to level and give them some gold/scrip.

I can't imagine anyone outside of the usual crazies every message board attracts at one point or another to find fault here. It's your gear to do with however you damn well please.

    admirable for sure.

everyone in my clan always shares drops depending on what people need prior to either breaking down or selling to the vendors.

One way or another you get it back, either through drops or help.
