    Uh.

Cars don't run off batteries. Batteries are used to start the vehicle and use accessories when the vehicle is not running.

The cars alternator supplies electrical power and battery recharge once the vehicle is running.

    Just saying.

Oh you all havent heard? All the good vehicles in the world were destroyed during the Terraforms, the only vehicles that survived that tragic event were Dodges.

But you won't have any power if you pulled the battery or if the wires from the battery are messed up or if you have a shot cell, or if your water is low, etc. Alternator alone isn't doing the job. If it were only to start and run accessories when the engine isn't running, you could disable the battery while the engine is running. My truck dies when battery cables are pulled.

The battery is there to maintain a constant supply of juice as the output of an alternator fluctuates. It is a "bank" of energy.

    Just saying.

Try this next time you're bored.

Start your car...remove the positive cable, then the negative cable, but please, make sure you don't touch the two together or let them tough anything else, that would be bad!

Point being, once started, your car will still run and be completely functional without a battery. Until you turn it off.

This is a great way to see if your alternator is shot.

Apparently you didn't read what I posted. I pull the cables and the truck stops. The alternator also works just fine.

I've helped people on the side of the road because their cars shut down when their batteries die. If the alternator can't charge the battery, the car goes to sleep.

You can run a car without an alternator however. The problem with this is the batteries go dead very fast. If you don't have electric fuel ignition, it can sip on the battery longer but the end results will be the same.
