I really hope they can improve the quality of writing and overall story arc and execution to 4/5 star levels because it will be hard to stick with the show if they don't.

I think for this show... since it is all localized to just this puny Defiance town, the writers need to take more influence from Breaking Bad than Game of Thrones... I mean focus on a few characters perspective of the world instead of hoping around trying to show things from different perspectives like you get in Game of Thrones.

FireFly did exactly that... focused on just the core crew of the FireFly... and let the rest of the world remain myterious and interesting for these characters to traverse.

Being a good show doesn't mean it will be successful. As someone mentioned earlier, Arrested Development. There's also stuff like Freaks & Geeks, Rubicon, Firefly, Deadwood, Rome, Twin Peaks, et cetera.

Episode II was a HUGE improvement over the pilot. I never winced from bad dialog during episode II.

I imagine in this day an age a lot of people don't even bother watching shows live anymore, or even on TV and just wait for it online.

Second episode brought more depth of the characters' introduction there. It also started to explain the cultural differences and tensions it cause. I liked it, but can't yet measure if I liked more the first episode. If I wanted it to be all-guns-blazing -show I could choose Rambos for that.

On drama side, some scripts seem to be self-explaining. It's not the worst I've seen, but not the best either. But if it turns out to be clever, I have been tricked into false prejudicies (of the characters) and I would just love that.

Not sure, I hope it does count views on syfy.com, because since I cannot watch the series on tv (living in sweden and all, it's not aired here), I watch it on syfy.com using a proxy and I'm probably not the only one.

Battlestar Galactica didn't have much action and it was an excellent show. Although, it took a season or two to really hook me. Defiance may go that route.

Play the game. Watch the show. The game is where the heavy action is. The show is where the drama and story is to be played out. If people want more action then play the game. I dont mind the slow pace of the show. It gets me to thinkin about the whole world of Defiance and that it is not all about driving around and shooting things up.

I think usually ratings go down after pilot because many ppl are curious and they just want to watch pilot episode to see what its all about

Are you guys freaking serious?!??! It's the SECOND episode of SEASON 1..... THEY HAVE TO SET THE STORY BEFORE THEY CAN DELVE DEEP INTO THE ACTION.....

Viewer numbers don't mean CRAP..... Look at shows like Arrested Development which had VERY low numbers but was an AMAZING show.....Netflix picked up the show after it got canceled and now netflix is about to release the next season in may....
