Unfortunately viewing figures mean everything. Arrested Development had poor viewing figures because it was constantly being moved around different time slots and had little advertising. It's success has come through it's dedicated community, word of mouth which lead to large dvd sales and being streamed on Netflix. It hasn't just been "picked up". The community have been campaigning relentlessly for years for it to be brought back but various networks wouldn't touch it as it was perceived to be a flop, not all of the actors could commit and Hurrwitz wanted to do a film version. Netflix have only jumped on because one of the ceos is a huge fan and Hurrowitz agreed to drop the movie idea. The situation there will never happen with Defiance.

Someone mentioned Twin Peaks. That was never supposed to have had a second season. Lynch has said that he didn't want to make another season as he felt the story had been done. Due to its massive and unexpected popularity he agreed to the 2nd season, although he took a far less prominent role

I wanted to like the show, since I'm playing the game, but I didn't. it's both corny and cheesey, w/out meaning to be. with such good shows on tv, ie homeland, game of thrones and boardwalk empire, how anybody could say this is good is beyond me. someone made a joke about jersey shore, but I'd rather watch those fools over this show. I have watched both episodes and will proly watch the next one, but I won't enjoy it. 8P

ps I didn't read all ten pages so sorry if I repeated anything.

I haven't even watched episode 2 yet. My interest in the game is dieing due to lack of any new content and no episodic missions being added to coincide with the tv episodes. So i guess that's kind of rolling over to my enthusiasm about watching the show.

I was watching the following. If they didn't put it on when Kevin Bacon the tv show comes on... I might have tuned in on time. So I DVR and watched it later.

Also to you wrappy. They didn't have a Huge budget to start with like Game of thrones. of course it's not going to be award winning. I love the TV show. I don't know how anyone can say they would rather watch Jersey shore over anything. Especially defiance.

yes, you're right. I was being facetious about jersey shore. for me budget isn't really an excuse, plenty of good shows have been done on relatively small budgets. some examples are star trek, quantum leap, seinfeld(when it started), all great shows, done on small(relative) budgets.

Its again the MMO world's doom and gloom trolls, isnt it? I believe this the fact is Syfy started to work on Season 2, last Jan/Feb, Syfy must have seen something in it.

With the added DVRs I dont see where people get that this show is drastically losing ground????? Also I had read somewhere and cannot find it that this series was already picked up for a season 2 could be wrong but I remember seeing it.

I think the bar is higher for newer shows than they were for the examples you've given. Star Trek and Quantum Leap were definitely trend setters for their time periods. People expect WAY more from sci-fi now thanks to those shows and other programs like Babylon 5, Firefly and the like.

Add to all this the fact that you can catch it 20 times in the next week on Sy Fy. I for one am glad to see 'em put the I back in Sci Fi, at least for this show.

13 - 18 year old poster in this topic.... Man this episode was so boring with the long drawn out conversations, I couldn't bare to watch it, my add was in overdrive, I mean why couldn't they have already had some long drawn out shoot out with Ben or something, jeez absolutely no action going on at all. It was like watching driving miss daisy or something.

I mean maybe if they threw in some TNA or curses or big arse explosions I could have enjoyed it.... Defiance is in trouble, if they keep this up I might not watch. I mean the third one did look good, with all those hellbugs and explosions and oh my... *** *** ***.

Everyone old enough to drink and have an IQ above 88 said.... the show looks pretty good. The rest should go watch re-runs of band of brothers, American Idol or Dancing with the stars or something. Obviously a show that requires even the most basic of thinking isn't for you (I do mean most basic because this show hardly requires you to think at all. It just isn't loaded down with unnecessary action just to keep Mr. Add happy.)
