I'm STILL hoping they at least give an instance of a city or something that is like FFXI where if a festival is going on it's decorated, NPCS are dancing and everything. Though that would only be the start, add some mini-games ( card games ), bar area just SOMETHING where we aren't always out in the world. I mean the crater is perfectly suited for something like this have it set up as an instance where you have to hold a button before entering ( like in some dungeons ). Then once inside the weapon is away, you can sit or do whatever.

I think that is one of the things that really irks me about the game they say so much about the crater yet when you get their it's like...a run down shack instead of some interesting place. Hell I found the farm more interesting than that and I've been on one most of my life >_<.

the fact that it is missing many of the standard mmo features and the ones it has are poorly designed and developed doesn't make it any less an mmo.
This game doesn't have any social interaction because the features that favor interaction are not available or are just so poorly designed that most people just ignore them.
Turn Borderland online, will it be an MMORPG?
Absolutely not, it will remain an online multiplayer shooter.
    There are major differences.

    Aaaaaaah...
Now we're talking about TRUE MMORPG elements.
And this one Myst just described, is only one tiny little parcel of what you will find in them.

The only major and big flaw that i see with the actual Defiance game, is that it has been packaged and sold as if it would be an actual full MMORPG with marketing videos and interviews that promised tons of elements that aren't sadly there, and because that, in the end...

It turns out we all bought an online shooter game with a story.

Yeah I think that's what drew me in to it as well. Saw the videos and got pumped but was saddened when quite a few things weren't in there. Still a fun game for what it is at times; but jut wish some of the other things were in there as well. I'd hope that perhaps with DLC we'd get it ( since there is kind of a trend of some games getting things that were hinted at in some videos coming out later. )

Faulty comparison. You can't create your own character in Borderlands.

My hopes were even higher than yours i do believe, Myst. And for the same exact reasons as well.
This is why, since Defiance is a free game with no monthly fees, i will continue to watch the amazing TV series that i love, but...
Will probbaly put the game on ice for a while, until i can finally see what the devs will do with it and what direction it will take.

Heck i mean, even if its in the long run, example: Interactive TV series mission only next year for season 2 (Has been confirmed now)
i don't really care since i dont have to pay anything per month.
Although yes, i have to admit that it is not really what i thought it would be so far, and by far, not what Trion showed us in all those amazing videos and blogs but still, this is what happened when you try to mix both genre: Shooter + MMORPG elements together.

The line is very thin where you can fall on one side or the other.
It is very difficult to try to bring everything together.
You can have way too much shooter (FPS) elements, and not enough RPG or...
The other way around, too much RPG and lack of shooting action.

We all know now what this one is lacking.

Borderlands is a first person single player game with cooperative 4 player online mode so it is online, its just not an MMO and yes you could still call it an rpg as it does almost everything that rpgs do except it is also a shooter and you can't create your own character so it's not really the same as this game.
call Defiance a simple shooter if you want but it is also an rpg for all the reasons i mentioned in the previous post,
the only major differences are that it uses guns, has no skill bar and yes it is also a shooter.

Yep probably so since I didn't know about the game for a while and feel like most of mine was only built on a few things and that's about it but enough to get me pumped. I will probably put the game down for a while to after playing a few more missions when I get back since as you stated there is no monthly fee ( which I do enjoy). While arkfalls are fun they can go rather stale especially after seeing each segment but thank goodness there are some other games to play while waiting for some more stuff to come out.

Since they got me hooked on the first and slightly on the second I will continue to watch as well. Started it so may as well see how everything will turn out at the end of this season. Usually I hate getting sucked into these types of things and try to wait until Netflix gets it; I just had to see it and so far it's not bad.

Frankly I hope the season pass or perhaps an update down the line will bring some changes to us that we saw in the videos. It does not have to be everything but just enough here and there would be nice.

@skepticck - Gotta say love anything to do with Shi or Ana so I just have to say it. I love that avatar.

Then where is that BIG HUGE city like in ALL major MMORPGs where i can sit down and
    socialize with everyone?
Where is the spot where i can build and craft everything i want the way i want?
Where is the major trading center, auction house, or big market where i can trade with other players and sell my goods??
Where are the dynamic events jumping in my face around the corner to bring me into a new adventure on the spot?
Where is the feeling of immersion as playing as the role of a character inside a variety of intriguing role playing events?
And by far.... Where the HELL is my animated main chat channel???
The list is a loooong one of what makes a shooter game a shooter game and...

A TRUE MMORPG a real one.
    Thank you all.

Defiance is an MMO at its core. It's not a full on MMORPG but it is an MMOTPS. Now as for the chat problems, well Area chat is complete crap. They need a World and a Trade chat to help get the social aspect going and getting the players more involved. Clan chat if it was working right on the PS3 version, we would be using it all the time but we encourage most of our clan members to use there mics. Outside of that, yeah World and Trade chat channels can make the social aspect be a lot better. Yet, they will improve on this aspect, hell they even confirmed they where making Clan improvements to make it more better to use. So in due time, YES we will see people being more social. Give the game time to get off the ground, going 3 weeks in is nothing compared to what we will see later on down the road.
