I don't see any US currency there. A quick google search says it isn't Canadian either. It looks more similar to E-Rep currency. You can see the Earth and for all motto on the currency matching the picture linked in this thread above.

It is the EARTH CURRENCY. It is an image of Earth. I think it being centered somewhere other than the United States helps to solidify it is a currency for Earth's people, and not an American currency. E-Rep may be situated in North America but it is meant to represent humanity and Earth's natural denizens as a whole.

that's scrip. My question is why is the image of europe and Africa part of the globe on the 10 if the earth republic is the North east section of the US and Parts of Ontario?

The only reason Luke had his scrip hidden was to hide it from his father, either because he really was trying to get away from Defiance or because he was up to some shady stuff.

As far as the image of the globe... We don't yet know what state the rest of the world is in, but I'm willing to bet that the Earth Republic has a presence in countries other than North America.

Also E-Rep was formed by the United Nations, which consists of a buck load of more countries other than the US. Also, North America is a massive bit of land, like Europe-Asia, and Africa. So no reason to think they're much worse or better off than those in the US.
And as Korben Reynolds points out...It is EARTH - Republic after all.

The coin part was answered in the show.. they say something similar to "my brother always thought it was funny to collect coins, said the copper was worth more than the coin itself".

So there is your answer.. no one would carry around copper coins because copper is more valuable as a metal then as a currency.

So it seems like we just took every paper currency, and standardized it?

So now a say...100 US dollar bill, and a 20 Canadian Dollar bill are both 1 Scrip.

That's called Handwaving. You are trying to explain away why there is an inconsistency without proof. You are correct that the E-rep supposed to represent earth. You are aware that The International Court of Justice (French: Cour internationale de Justice; commonly referred to as the World Court or ICJ) is the primary judicial organ of the United Nations. It is based in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands. It isn't in NYC. If it wasn't for the fact that the US donated a chunk of NYC for the building of the UN Building that would be there too. You know why its here? To monitor them. But UN is just a group of diplomats who gather and gripe and make resolutions that countries ignore if they don't like them.
If the E-rep was truly international, they could have went anywhere. Like Antarctica, which is supposed to be a paradise. Without the ice, Antarctica is as big as Australia. Entirely new cities could be build. Yet, they stay in what is left of NYC and the North east?
