It's not a WOW/EQ clone, what more does one need to say? It's an twitch-action-MMO, but it's not an MMORPG
There's no stinking trinity class system! which in my opinion is the plague and bane of all MMORPG. You don't spend over half your free time waiting for X or Y class to turn up to do stuff.
"There's a single letter difference between winner and whiner, which are you?"
"Experience is another word for that time I stuck an Apple Pie in the microwave for 2 minute and then took a bite out of it! Experience teaches me NOT to DO THAT again"
Don't listen to the negative Nancy's. This game is very intertaining and will only get better.
Most of the anti defiance BS is from people that haven't played long enough to understand the game.
I played rift from launch, now here, from launch. The Trion team will get this right.
Sign up join the fight. I'm having a blast. Ego 750 or so and haven't come close to playing all the content. Haven't come across any game breaking bugs.
Buy it you won't be disappointed.
You should listen to one post account made just now to coax you into buying the game instead.![]()
The game lacks variety and inspiration. The shooting mechanics are solid but the enemies are brain dead and just run straight at you. There is no compelling content to do with groups and there are no social aspects. Nothing will challenge you if you are decent at shooters. Group content is so easy you waltz through it on your 1st try without any problems at all. Arkfalls are just as easy but even simpler in design.
It's fun for a few hours until you realize they keep recycling the same mission, with the same objectives over and over again. Even for an mmo structure it's bad. Defiance does nothing to change things up and keep the player interested. There are bugs, although I haven't had too many problems there. The game is simply not very good. The side quests are the laziest design I've seen in any game in a long time. Get quest, drive 30 sec, pick up item, drop off in mailbox. There are dozens of quests that are exactly like this. It's bad.
I can not recommend this game and everyone I know who has played it is disappointed.
Since it's a buy to play game with no subscription fee I bought it myself...
Even if you only play like 15-20 hours of Defiance, you get your money's worth compared to any other title out there and there's chance to play even more...
I like it because it's simple, fun and great to pass the time... It's also good since you can tie it in with the series if you liked it and makes it more fun to follow and take part in...
Gamewise, it's pretty much a 3rd person Borderlands with a more persistent world/more people running around/ PvP etc.
If you get it from somewhere like play-sc.com then for the price, it's good value!
The only negative I found so far is that it feels a bit lonely or even if I run into players they don't really chat...Also had trouble finding a clan
That's all!
I was an Alpha and Beta tester. I bought a CD Key from online for about $35AUD...worth every cent. I've played it more so far than most games I've bought at twice the price.
Storyline missions are good (and in my opinion really done well in order to bring usual 'single-player' people into the MMO field -> like me!)
The rest of the MMO stuff, like Co-Op, arkfalls etc... is what now has me hooked and sticking around.
If I had to give it a ratio id say its 20%mmo and 80%3rd person shooter(id love to see it be more 50/50). Unless you join a clan it will feel like a solo game, if you play with friends as I do the game can be fun but its kind of buggy in terms of playing together a lot of phasing issues which im sure will get worked out. Itemization on the weapons and shields could be better finding greens that are better than purples is disconcerting. Im hoping the season pass dlc's will bring a lot more complexity and bug correction but time will tell. Is it worth 60 bucks id say so ive gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this title and continue to do so and Trion is a very reputable company that takes care of its players.
I wish you the best in your endeavors,
Tokenaru
