If you like open world. Shooter combat. MMO. You're very likely to enjoy this.

Ignore the trolls... there's something about any internet forums, especially game forums, that brings out the inbred, unhelpful, flame-spewing artard in everyone

Honestly, I feel like this game would be perfect for you. At its core, it is all shooter. The complexity isn't so much gear based, and definitely not stat-based, as it is playstyle and skill base. It levels the playing field, and not in a dumbed down sort of way, but in a matter-of-fact, as-it-should-be-way. It is a TPS first, and an MMO second, and as a TPS, the game play and mechanics are fairly tight.

As an MMO, I'll warn you, WTF was Trion thinking with their current social system?! It's pretty bad, but once you get the hang of the clunky, lazy console port aspect of the game, it becomes much better, though chat is still awful. Worth noting, I'm sure a proper chat is on its way, among other bug fixes. But that's MMO's for ya. Always something bugging out. So it goes.

The PvP is fun, but not as great as it could be. I still enjoy blowing people's heads off. It just takes some getting used to and adaption to the more common ego abilities and weapons that are used, and past that, it's easy like a hooker on the weekend!

I also feel that if you are going to be playing this as a fill-the-gap sort of game, it will be that much better for you, as a lot of hardcore, play for 24/7 straight kinda gamers are complaining about the lack of content. There is more than enough content to keep you occupied (main missions which are re-playable for exp, side quests, PvP, misc trials and mini-games), provided you aren't rushing to grind out everything, for whatever reasons people like to do that...

And before someone flames this comment, let me say while certain things could be perceived as grindy, since the game is skill-based and not gear/stat based, it doesn't have to be grindy at all. I've been playing it often since it came out, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Never once had to grind anything, and so forth.

Worth mentioning - I have been gaming a long time, played many MMO's over the years, from vanilla EQ (talk about a painful game) to more modern games like Rift and GW2, so I'm not speaking about these aspects as my first rodeo.

Anyway, hope this was helpful to you, and have fun with whatever you choose.

@stryfe.....I resent your comment about trolling, especially the part about inbred, I take it that's you in your avatar? well you might want to take a look at your family tree. I was being helpful plus if people need to come on a forum to decide what game to buy then well.....incoming!. If you can afford to buy it then do...don't like then trade it in....or can't afford it then don't buy it.

One big plus is the fact that aside from the DLCs later (or you can buy the season pass now and get all the DLCs for this season) You pay one flat fee of $60 and you don't have to fret over monthly fees. So You get it now and when new stuff comes out. You can always come back with out a hassle. (Baring any problems with bugs hear and there that is)

So i ask you players, what can this game give to me?.

I have come from a multitude of mmo's and have recently started to play them less and less due to time restraints.

But will Defiance fill the time that i have ok?
Does it have enough complexity to keep me interested (I Love Rift's soul tree)
    Is there enough variety/exploration?

Add as much as you want.

Give me a reason why this game would fill a gap.

Having palyed a lot of MMO's myself what I like about this game is I can do everything without grouping. When your committed to a group it's hard to walk away and take care of real life business. Especially if you are in a raid instance. The game plays a lot like a Borderlands shooter.

If you enjoy that style of game (I do) and you like not being tied to others to compete objectives (I do). Then you will enjoy this game and you can advance at your own pace.

Well never played Rift so this is my first experience with Trion and they are doing pretty well IMO. I Love the game and I think the show is pretty jekking awesome so far, havent caught up on the second episode yet but I'm lookin forward to it =P.

It's open world pve similar to Guild Wars 2 in the way that it has dynamic events that will pop up as you are exploring and other players can stop by and help you out with out stealing you completion exp from you xD I find the major arkfalls to be pretty fun as well. They are pretty much giant world dynamic events and dont pop up as often as normal events do.

There are co-op maps which are pretty much like your basic MMO dungeon run minus the same kind of loot rewards that other games give you though(they could work on that a bit).

There are pvp maps and there is the shadow war pvp instance. Only been in one shadow war and honestly I felt lost but that will subside once I've done a few more of them. They are pretty much giant objective based pvp missions.

And the "overwhelming response of "meh" " as he states is because of the epically astute ratings of the internet game raters OPINIONS offered at Metacritic or whatever.

And Gohlar.. where were you on Saturday? I was so looking forward to putting you pixels to rest in some PvP hater.. but you where a no show.. pity..
