So someone who's not sure whether they want to buy the game based on things they've read comes here for some advice/problem solving and gets a couple of users basically saying "preorder the game or ****".
Great way to welcome people to the community. Oh no hang on, that person is more than likely to never buy the game and tell everyone they know not to either. Bravo.![]()
Yeah the control was really bad, but it goes beyond that, they didn't even change the references to the xbox buttons to the keyboard, and the keys they mapped the buttons to make no sense at all. Beta testing wouldn't have changed that, that's pre-alpha lol. Dark Souls didn't really need an open beta or anything, since it's coming from the 360 there's not a whole lot of difference, but there were some basics that were overlooked if you're not using a 360 controller. I can't see why they let it ship like that.
I didnt tell him to buy the game. I told him to put 5 bucks on it so he can gain access to the beta and try it out himself. It only takes 5 bucks, you get access, try it out. You dont like it, get a different game. You do like it, put the rest of the money on it, and play with the rest of us. And basically, what the OP wanted was free access to the beta that most of us paid for. Why should HE get free access to test a game out when MOST of us dont have that luxury?
Its not a matter of whether hes "not sure" hes going to play. He came here for a shoulder to cry on, and it blatantly says how to get a beta invite. OP is expecting special treatment that none of us are getting based on the fact that he doesnt want to go deposit 5 dollars on a pre-order.

There aren't really any other options, there isn't a demo, so you can either pre-order, relying on reviews/videos, or wait until there's a demo released.
Though I do agree, there was a pretty negative and uncalled for reply, but welcome to the internets, there'll always be trolls
You can find most of this merely with a search, and you seem to have a hostile attitude for some one curious about the game. Honestly a Beta is not for a trial or free game for your enjoyment it is for testing and stressing hardware environments. Plus on a console the code in a Beta has been submitted way in advance so what your playing is not even finished product that will arrive to market, so using it for a demo is a bad idea.
Nah pretty sure the OP was under the impression that the beta was open to everybody, not just those who have preordered it.
Also, how do you know that the OP is from the USA? Over here in the UK a lot of retailers won't even give you a preorder beta code/invitation etc. until you confirm you are going to buy it. Take my preorder for example, as soon as I clicked on the 'activate code' section a prompt comes up with by activating this code you are commiting to buying this product.
