My feelings on the NIM Fight (no this does not tell you how to beat him)

No spoiler here, just my 2 cents about how I felt after defeating NIM last night.

As my wife went out the door to a meeting last night I decided I would tackle NIM, after reading several strategies, I decided the best route for an old timer that was not particularly twitch orientated was to go with a BMG which gave me low dps but also the ability to regenerate my shields. After traveling to the various way points and finally arriving to the scene, off I went with my companions (NPC) into the bunker. After fighting our way through I finally arrived at the big moment.

Had my weapon chosen, fixed my perks, I eventually went for Decoy with health and shield regeneration perks and in I went. The battle was fierce, and after getting him down to a sliver of like I was incapacitated and had to start over again, I nearly cried, being so close. I took me two more tries, and finally on the fourth try the stars aligned and I figured out his pattern and took him down in short order.

The third and fourth battles while long were really just hide and shoot affairs, with no incapacitated deaths and only 1 self-revive, it really is just a giant avoid the damage, regenerate shields if you do get damaged and shoot when you can. A BMG is pretty forgiving in terms of accuracy. The entire quest line in total took me about 2.5 hours from start to finish. The good, part was I felt as if I finished something legendary. I read how hard the fight was, saw many complaining that it was impossible, but proved that even an old 60 year old, can run, roll, shoot and hide his way to victory.

The bad part is this was a legendary fight, and the reward for this epic fight was a purple pistol. I worked 2.5 hours for this victory and got a reward that really is not that useful as far as weapons go. This took my victory high and brought me down like a ton of bricks. Now I know that we can’t give out legendary weapons for every encounter, but come on folks, how about going to the standard MMO fair of letting NIM drop the equivalent of a Tier 4 lock box, I rather take my chances with garbage then a lone pistol.

In conclusion this fight is not impossible, it is long and drawn out and takes a lot of focus and awareness of the field of battle, then learning what NIM does and then being able to avoid the types of damage he throws out. But, in my humble opinion, give me a shot at a decent reward weapon make me feel like I accomplished something in the game by giving me something that shows the Legendary nature of this fight.

PS, feel free to drop a legendary weapon in my inventory anytime for this fight and everyone else who also fought and won.

As someone who talked to a lot of people/read the forums etc i was honestly expecting this battle to be a lot more challenging. I went in with some random 404 damage unmodded LMG i'd just picked up, a bolt action sniper rifle and a respark shield (which honestly i'd argue is the only shield type worth using) with stealth as my EGO ability of choice.

I died once or twice in the first phase due to some messed up dodges, but on the third or so try when i got passed phase 1 I one shot the rest of the fight. For me personally, the waypoints leading up to the fight were more challenging than the fight itself.

Any deaths I had on my first few attempts were just simply wrong weapons choices and a bit of bad luck on my part. A wrong roll into a wall, I'm trapped and then dead.

I ended up going shotgun and bmg for shield regen. Put up a 3 second shield. I think I died twice on the first one, then was good to go on the other two.

It is a challenge. But honestly, do not look forward to doing it again on another character. I really didn't enjoy the fight that much.

Also, I agree. The purple pistol is a joke. I'd even take a Tier 3 box over that pistol and take my chances.

One of my clan mates literally told me any point and aim weapon was pointless for the nim fight because he is in constant blur, so I took his advice and levelled my BMG as much as I could and frankly it was so slow and I nearly died of bordom before actually dying and needing to restart, I switch to my combat shotgun and nailed the guy in literally one tenth the time it took me previously.

The point of the story, sod what other people tell you, do what you feel is comfortable.

People find this fight difficult because they are doing things they don't normally do or use
"There's a single letter difference between winner and whiner, which are you?"

"Experience is another word for that time I stuck an Apple Pie in the microwave for 2 minute and then took a bite out of it! Experience teaches me NOT to DO THAT again"

Well to a player who favors sniper rifles and pistols with the cloak ego power I was pretty happy with the full auto pistol reward though I will say I wish it had a larger mag considering its insane fire rate.

In terms of how I felt about the fight...I was a little disappointed by it. I've been reading and seeing(didn't bother to read all of them) tons of thread with people complaining about how hard Nim is and how they have been trying for ages and cant beat him. I finally got to the end of the current story last night and put Nim 6 feet under on my first try with only using one self revive on his final stage. While yes the final fight is long and requires some focus it was by no means as difficult as the forum community lead me to believe.

All it took was cloak and the purple XMC Assault Rifle that Nolan gives you as a reward for his episode quest which is by no means a high damage weapon. It has 4 mod slots which I had been too lazy to fill before the boss fight and 222 dps. Simply shoot/reload, dodge attacks, and cloak if you get into some serious shtako and the fight is in the bag.

Oh and since shields were mentioned I was using a purple Hurrican IV which is the only shield worth using IMO since its regen is sooooo fast.

    happy shooting xD

Yup the respark I think is probably the ideal PVE shield especially vs Nim where you are going to be dodging and diving a bunch. I did not find him all that bad I had a good assault rifle with a cope and a 15 mag sized shotgun for up close. Given how he really wants to melee the shotty really worked great on him. I think if you had one of the higher shield rating long delay shield that fight would be super frustrating.

In pve I have to say respark overall is best type of shield I have tried. In PVP something like the rhino especially if you are cloak speced is very good as well to prevent being one shotted.

Yeah, Nim all comes down to the following: -
    1) Having a very fast recharge shield.
    2) Dodging a lot and double dodging his power attacks.
    3) Running a lot.
Of course getting to know his rotation is also important, but once you do the above he is fairly easy.

yea...I wish they woulda made him a little more difficult, his rotation was pretty easy to grasp on the first time through since I've played many an MMO in my days.

I've beat him twice now... The 2nd time around he barely hurt me...
You just have to know when to attack him...

    Phase 1
After he does 3 or 4 of the charged blue dashes he pauses for a moment so hit him with everything you've got.

The rest of the time avoid and slowly hurt him.
Running sideways and away really helps avoid lasers and fireball attack.
If he dashes you roll away.

    Phase 2
Kill the Clones quickly, if you find a clone that isn't dying that's him so hit him hard.
Stay hidden behind the pillar and come out only to attack.
If the fire on one pillar gets too heavy run to the other one.

Each time you hurt him alot and kill his clones he warps away.
Refill your ammo at the cache.
Those yellow digitized land formations appear, gun the ones near you down first.
If he makes multiple clones on the 2nd floor, kill all the ones in your Line Of Sight first so the laser swords don't hit you.
The others won't hurt you at all because of the pillar used as cover.

    Phase 3
    A 4th clone is added.
He's a bit more agressive now so alternate between left and right pillars to get away.
When it's just you and him, no clones run around the pillars making an infinity symbol.
This will allow you to be out of line of sight of his attacks while keeping distance from him.
He'll usually do ground pound during this part, hide to avoid, then nuke him with your EGO and high damage after.

This fight is stupid easy with an OverCharge damage build and an AR that has shock/ Cluster Shotgun

I beat him easy first time and only did #3, didn't even have to do a combat roll. I used a Rhino Reloader (slowest recharge on shields but can take a lot of damage), and a Vot Grind Fragger, my special was cloak.

Its easier IMO to ignore the clones and hammer Nim. The real Nim is the one you crit when you hit him, hit him hard and him and his clones will disappear. He'll respawn with the clones, rinse and repeat. And I believe Terraforming, the land he makes, is in his third form.
