I think people confuse f2p like league with b2p like gw2 since both have continuous revenues through microtransactions now a days.

Defiance is clearly buy to play with optional pay for content/cash shop type thing, confirmed by the appearance of it on presale, in 3 editions.

They also said they were likely going with this plan in one of their interviews, it seems they have.

this is the thing, trion themselves i dont believe have settled on a monetizing plan yet, game stop are renown for putting stuff up and then having to edit the prices. Wait until Trion say something about prices

Pre Order for exclusive in game item and beta access ... well guess im going to gamestop soon =P ... now im curious what gonna be the difference between all 3 version . i think normal is normal . collector gonna be with premium dlc or something like that and ultimate gonna be with real drawn map and maybe figurine . so if it like that il go with collector

Oh No... how are they gonna Reason the existence of a "collectors" and "Super-ultra-collectors edition" ? Established series like Halo can do this,or warhammer 40k can do this. However Defiance is a brand NEW I.P. Players wont have any attachment to any characters or story. There's always gonna be "that guy" that will pay anything tho.

Its actually quite normal for big budget MMOs. Also I'd imagine some long time Rift (Trion World supporters..) could buy it easily.

Well if the budget is almost 80mill, total. They definitely need at least 1 mill, thats absolutely minimum or they make heavy losses, preferably 2-3 mill, I think it could be doable as its console & PC game.
