Is there a thread on game etiquette?

    Hi everyone,

I was surprised tonight to find out that somebody in the game took a hit out on me because, he said, I was sniping *his* kills.

I thought the gameplay was fluid and not necessarily clan or group based. If I see someone on the map randomly, I will often run over and start playing alongside them - meaning if I run into an area and see a firefight, I will join in; if I am playing a mission and someone joins me, I play with them.

The other day, I was doing just that... Running along with a couple of people who didn't respond on area chat... We all happened to run into the same mission and I staked out a hill for sniping within the perimeter while they proceeded into the fray. I thought I was helping, but apparently I was not welcome and was reported to a hunter who tracked me down.

So the question is... Is there someplace that lists all the rules of etiquette for the game or am I just supposed to either play alone (leaving others to play their missions alone) or play just with my clan members?

At this point, I am kind of put off the game... I thought MMO meant a cooperative environment, but I seem to only be pissing people off. I'm almost afraid to play now - I don't want to be kicked out of the game or get undeserved rep as an *******.

There has been a change in the last patch and now only people actively participating (read hitting at least once a mob) get credit for it. It kinda defeat the purpose of the ad hoc social grouping that was great and refreshing in this game. They reintroduced kill stealing notion doing so, which is a bit odd.

If they have a problem with it then they should politely respond on area chat. An MMO should not need posted etiquette when players have the ability to communicate.

dont matter too much who kills it, as long as you effect the target somehow you get credit for the kill...

you can always create a group as well...

The hunter said this person was screaming at me on chat to stop sniping, but I heard nothing. It's probable that either their mic wasn't plugged in OR I had the chat volume turned way down and didn't hear them. Why they didn't send me a typed message in chat when it became clear that we potentially weren't hearing each other, idk.

Either way, I still find it kind of ****ty. I'm there to play and have fun, not 'steal' someone's kills. If I constantly have to run away/ignore when I see others playing I hardly see the point of playing at all.

That's what I thought... As long as you hit the target, you get credit regardless of who deals the final blow.

Considering the jerks who use vehicles at arkfalls not responding to voice or text chat, I've simply gotten to the point where I play how I play regardless of the others around me. If you enjoy jumping in and helping, then jump in and help. There are still people in game that don't understand loot is specific to each player. I've lost two or three purples because some fool was standing on my loot and wouldn't move because s/he thought I would steal her loot.

If you find it fun, then do what you find fun.

I don't understand. What do you mean a "hunter" came after you? Unless you're in a competitive match, others can't kill you, so what could this "hunter" actually do to you, and what DID he do? I mean, in a game like WoW, people would have someone from the other faction (or multiple people) come repeatedly kill you if you made them mad, but I don't get what kind of action(s) a person could take in this game.

Well, he friended me, found me in the game, and then explained that I had played 'incorrectly' or 'rudely' and had been 'reported' to him by another player. Don't get me wrong, the 'hunter' was very nice and extremely helpful. He didn't try to kill me, but only to offer help. I found this both disconcerting (ESP since there seem to be no written rules of game behavior and, as Deirachel implies, there are plenty of worse jerks than me at any given ark fall) and kinda ok (it was nice to be walked through a few things by a more knowledgeable player).

So you're right, there's nothing they could have done, per se, besides talk to me. I just don't want to piss off my fellow gamers if it can be helped.
