PC and Console reaching equal footing? i don't think so.....
Consoles always have the fact that they are gaming on a old system.
the Xbox 360 was released in 2005, and the 360 S in 2010, that means console players (i'm just talking about Xbox right now to keep it simple) have been playing on a system that was from 2005, so for 5 years they have been playing on the same system while games and technology progressed.
the lifespan or rather the systems that can run high end games for PC needs to be updated every 3 years or so to keep everything running smooth but the progress in computer technology goes way faster then that, every year you will have new CPU's, Video Cards, Motherboards etc etc.
meaning that PC systems can only go faster and faster.
what i mean with this is that console could never meet up with the specifications or speed of a PC.
simply because a console is for gaming only! just that fact already explains why console could never even come close to a PC.
Now i am an experienced PC guy and i don't want to sound all fanboy and what not so console players don't feel offended, i'm just stating it the way i see it and the way things go.
i guess most pc gamers have that arrogance because they know PC is always better then console SPECIFICATION WISE, also perhaps in graphics and such but the thing is:
Console = Gaming only
PC = Gaming and allot more.
EHEHEHEHHEHE It's weird to see my history being typed for another person. In fact I kept buying portable consoles after the SNES, but yeah the most advanced consoles I played after the SNES were a Sega CD I rented every other weekend, and a N64, bought just to use Pokémon Colosseum.
Because it's irony. The offense is just a fake image to mess up with the expectations, but it was never meant to that end.
Console=90% of a PC
the difference is that consoles are meant for gaming, some computers are as well, but at most only 50% is ever dedicated to gaming. The other thing, xbx 720 would have amazing stats that most computers will not have, but the price will be less than half because xbox makes its money on the games, not consoles.
Some people say "winning isn't everything." I say "Then why are you here?"
I would like to see one shred of solid evidence to support that number. And for the record, the only thing a computer is good for anymore is looking at ****. Console gaming is far superior to the frame rate drops and lag spikes on even single player computer games, not to mention when I buy a game for my console I dont have to check and see if my system requirements are good enough!
Also, its nice that you have 6,500$ to waste on a computer, but most people here are not so affluent. Perhaps you should keep that in mind before talking up how superior computer gaming is. Only for the rich my friend, only for the rich.
The next gen consoles will be on equal footing to PC's we have right now. While PC's will continue to evolve and get better, guess what, they are at a point now where games can't get much better. You could continue to pump more power into a gaming rig, but eventually you'll run out of stuff to max that content. Which is the point we are almost reaching now.
You also obviously don't know the difference between current gen and next gen. I said next gen of gaming consoles will be on equal footing with current PC's. As for PC's getting better, sure they do get better, but they also cost 10x's as much money. Next gen console will cost 500 dollars, for the newest graphics card alone you could plunk down 500 dollars. So cost/effect issue console wins hands down.
I already said, I own all the systems and have a pretty decent PC (although I'll need a new updated one in a few years) so the whole argument is just stupid to me. As for PC people being arrogant, yeah they are, on one hand they clamor to PC's being better, while at the same time trying to hammer home the point that PC's aren't that expensive.
This is what lead to my asking... I also have all three and have always bought games for the consoles with the understanding that I would run into less hackers. I thought I might get this communities take on it.
Thank you to all who responded. I have read, enjoyed and think I became a bit more knowledgable...
One of the first fond memories I have of gaming is booting up Doom in DOS and blowing an imp to mush with a rocket launcher. I grew up playing PC epics like Myst, Doom, Project Journeyman, Mech Warrior, Warcraft, Total War, etc. But, I also ventured into the console realm when Sega was released. I remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time and being blown away that I was using a system that was solely designed to play games. As the years went on and I was thrust into the real world of bills and responsibilities, proper PC gaming become far to pricey for ms to keep up with. For a few hundred bucks I could pick up a console and a game or two. Albeit, it was ultimately the original Xbox which convinced me to stay with console. That console proved that such a platform could provide high quality gaming (decent graphics, AAA titles, and online play), for relatively cheap. In my opinion, hacking should not be considered when comparing PC and consoles. Those with the access to the knowledge and a desire to win above all else (or have a little more fun in some circumstances), will mod or hack in order to gain an advantage regardless of platform. I currently play Defiance on Xbox 360 because I love the Xbox Live community as a one stop shop for gaming, entertainment, and social networking. I know a PC serves the same purpose and then some, but frankly it's a bit out of my price range to do so, and I can do all that from the comfort of my couch.
