"Potential" is such an overrated word.

Why is so many games this days, that have great "Potential" but they fail to deliver ?
Where all the "Old School" Developers are, that use to transform "Potential" into greatness ?
Why no one cares anymore ?
    Why.... oh why?

Well to try and make this contructive, alot of us do care. All games in general have such good potential, but alot of new age things are hindering that potential. For example the new Star Wars MMO had the potential to dethrone WoW, but they screwed up. Just an example mind you, and i agree, the old school games did do very well.

Time change however and so do deadlines, unfortunatley we don't get many games like that anymore. :[

Games with great "potential" fail because their developers don't spend enough time working out all the kinks. At least Trion has admitted to their faults and seems to be pretty dedicated to fixing issues. Yeah there are alot of them, but the work going into restructuring a server to alleviate issues is mind blowing. If Trion sticks with Defiance, we will see a super solid game in the next 4 to 5 months. Some may say it should still be in beta. I say tough ****. I'd rather play it full release now and have them fix stuff as we go then it still be in beta for another few months.

I also think that "old school" devs made such good games because the technology was easier to manipulate. It's a lot easier to program a plumber that runs and jumps on enemies, and occasionally spits fireballs, then it is to create and maintain a AAA MMO on two international servers, on three different platforms.

Making things like FFXIV. Outside of crap like that, They are making awesome games. Players are jaded. Wow sucked way worse than most mmo releases since and would have likely failed if some of them came out first and got a content edge. Things will probably never be the same again.

swtor never had a chance, it failes as soon as they decided to copy warcraft almost exactly.

    Last time In promise.

Why no one cares? I think alotnof devs care about their games. Unfortunately, they are required by publishers and investors to redeem a substantial ROI. When many issues bog down a game, the dev can lose support of it's publisher, essentially sentencing the game to death. Devs are also forced to stick to strict release deadlines. It's all about the money. If having a huge publisher and distributer wasn't as important as it was today, we would still see games with issues, but I think devs would do more testing before and release more efficient fixes.

Even that was pretty good. All they copied from wow really was the pvp areas.SWTOR copied itself. Ever see the 2 main cities? Copy, paste, copy, paste. SWTOR failed because it had no content at endgame. As far as I know this far after release it still has no great content. It did have some awesome leveling tho. I hate leveling on most games and I liked it.

I think theres alot of potential, thats if they add the sea and space later, in Defiance you fight at the ground, the sea and the space.
