You should be trying to log into the Trion client to play, not Steam, nor does does Defiance use Steam servers.

True, Defiance does not use Steam servers. How ever if you are not currently logged in the steam client when you launch Defiance. The Steam client will log you in be for the launcher shows up.Originally Posted by WarMachine

After checking a few things if you make a desktop shortcut the Defiance 'Patcher.exe' to start the game. Then the Steam client won't launch and log you in.
If you use the shortcut Steam has made then of course it will log you in first.
I start defiance by the Windows start menue, but I do have a shortcut on my desktop. Without a shortcut, you'd eather need to fire up the patcher manually by using the .exe file, or start up steam. But the game isn't dependent on steam, as of yet, I've not had to start Steam to play defiance.
In all likely hood, Steam has an exception in the steam short cut to start steam.
Edited to add, my steam shortcut doesn't have any exceptions, just links to the patcher exe.
