Where are the devs and Trion bosses going on holiday ?

Hi i was just thinking where would a dev or boss from Trion go on holiday with all our cash that they have taken from us ?
They wont be pumping into the game that's for sure , as from beta , alpha to game release all there has been on the forums nothing but complaints and yes my self included .
Why the fun factor is keeping some players logging in day to day , some hopeing to see a fix ect , might be ok for now lets hope that Trion , dev's don't miss the boat and come back from where they have been topping up there winter tan and deliver a fix'd game , i:e DLC .

sadly, they are not going to be going anywhere on vacation in my opinion. I really think something happened between Scyfy and Trion with a power struggle, forcing the game to be released when it was, rather than waiting for it to actually be completed. As a result, the game is dying, and at this point, not much can save it imo. People have been burned, and regardless of what happens now, I think too many have been turned off.

Think of Vanguard, SOH. Had great potential, but was prematurely released. Things went sour quickly, even though SoE bought it and started putting more money into it. Now, it is limping along on lifesupport that is FTP, while its devs are being pulled away for all the other projects SOE has going on that will actually earn money. Bugs that have existed for yrs are still in game.

The sad fact is, that games have a very small window of opportunity in which to convince the market that they are worth the money and time. The other sad fact is that this game, Defiance, failed to do so, and that window of opportunity is closing quickly, if not already gone entirely. As a result, the game might limp along with a few players, but I doubt many new purchases will happen, so the player base will dwindle more and more.

Somewhat vague if not altogether false marketing convinced some people, like myself, to try and prepurchase the DLC packages, even though there is really nothing interesting worth that money, as the playable stuff will be free, (yes I really am happy I paid to be able to redo the whole pathetic storyline all over again as a new race......? someone pls shoot me now...)

Whenever Trion does get around to releasing DLC, some of us that did prepurchase the packs will return, if briefly, to check out the new content, but almost assuredly it will not be enough to make the game healthy.

The end result is, Defiance will go down as another game that had incredible potential that was failed to be realized. The Devs who have worked hard and long hours will be let go, to try and find another project somewhere else. The bosses, well, sometimes most of them always find a way to come out on top....

Still. Considering the amount of money it takes to start up a game in this day and age, I am not certain that Trion made all that money back, so there might not be too much 'paid" vacations happening any time soon for anyone.

I am not a programmer, nor a coder, but when it was claimed that 150 devs have been working on this game for ages, I find that patently hard to believe. Creation cycle is what, 3-5 yrs or so for a new game at least? up to 7 for an MMO? That duration times the number of devs adds up to some rediculous work hours, and yet all they managed to release was the buggy piece of junk that we are dealing with now? in the words of someone infamous " I pity the fool"

You're spot on about Vanguard. I absolutely don't want to see the other Trion get fired in the parking lot, though. I'd much rather they actually deliver a quality patch that elevates this game to the standard I (and many others that played Rift) have come to expect from Trion.

Unfortunately, that is the very definition of a Defiance miracle patch. Miracle patches don't happen, though I'd love Trion to make me eat my words.

While at first I found it difficult to believe 150 people worked on this game, split three ways for three platforms it makes more sense. Even if it wasn't an even split, you're still dealing with a sizable number of people working on porting the game to the "other" platforms.

If there is a parking lot scenario, it would most likely be the "branches" rather than the "trunk" getting pruned. I pray to god that doesn't happen, though, as I'd much rather this game live up to its brand.

Going into super-cynic mode, I see the possibility of SyFy/NBC/Comcast deciding they're going to make a season 2 anyway, and even the worst press possible for the game would be perfectly fine as "they can just release season 2 of the game." Or, like they've repeated many times in marketing, "the game and the series can both continue without the other."

We've heard multiple times that the game won't attach much to the game until season 2, which implies season 2 is a foregone conclusion, and that could either mean the game completely splits from the series at season 2 (and is left to die) or season 1 of the game/tv series is a legitimate buy-in open beta for season 2 of the TV series. We'll see, and Trion's rate of DLC/patches will give us hints on what we should expect.

OMG if the game is so terrible stop playing and leave. I and many others are having fun. I've seen a few bugs but nothing major. Know others haven't been as lucky. But that's how MMOs are.

As a software engineer, bugs happen in software that gets released. Some pretty major. And usually not because the devs are like "Yeah it's bug free......"

Would love to see some of you fools work the probably 80-100 hour weeks that these guys probably are so that we can sit on our *** and play video games in our free time (something they likely don't have a lot of).

I agree i also play'd some of the games as yourself
And it also strikes me as amazing to think that some one is hey lets waist 5 yrs i think not , they should have just waited for console , PC , to catch up with each other then try and do the cross over if it didn't work well then at least they would have a game that the players on the PC world are happy with .
And the console players are also happy .
I have a PS3 as a lot of players have along with my PC , and have been playing Dust 514 now why Trion didn't take a leaf from eve online's book is a head scratch , we can play long side the PC guys in space whilst we are planet bound so the link from PC to Console works !!!!

Consoles will never 'catch up' to PCs...
Consoles will always lag behind in terms of power.

It is widely known that it was Microsoft and Sony that blocked cross platform play, not Trion.

Oh and I paid $30 for the game, not $60.

At this moment, I am pulling out a checkbook. The bank listed is Respect and Appreciation.

I am tearing out a single check, and addressing it to Trion. For the sum of ten million Appreciation Points.

I will sign this if they show me the product of 80-100 hour weeks. I will even sign this if they show me the product of solid 40-hour weeks since alpha and beta.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the product of much of anything at the moment-- that's the issue. We're still running with a long list of apologies and promises, of bugs dating back to early alpha and late launch, but the product I haven't seen yet. I'm looking for that patch that simply isn't here yet, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to see it at all.

My experience with Trion in Rift is working to Trion's disadvantage. I've come to expect that Respect-Check to be written every week, but I've yet to need to write a single one of them since the Defiance launch-- the two opportunities thus far had to be rescinded because it didn't work as intended (the first client patch) and it failed to live up to their advertised promises (the first tie-in content).

Will they make me into a fool for not trusting them? I certainly hope so.
