Didn't see this post in time to reply with the other one, but yes this is the only game I have this problem with, and I have tried restarting my modem/router many times with the same results. Speed tests show 50~mb d/l and 17~mb u/l, so I'd hope it's not that

It could be packet loss. See my thread here for more info:

when this happens to me its usually cause i OC my cards too much or they (or my cpu) are running way too hot, causing stuttering. when you arent moving it doesnt have to adjust the screen layout or utilize the game engine to move you around (I know poor explanation) even though you can look around with no issues it's not the same...do you see any crazy artifacts at any time in the game while still or moving? if you dont have one aready, try downloading a program to monitor the temps and freqs of your gpu and cpu and run the log while you run the game and see what it tells you when you get stuttering.

That's a great link by MacDeath. You can still have great internet speeds and have packet loss and may not notice it unless you are doing something like streaming live video or playing a real-time game like this and see stuttering. Even if it's not MTU size sometimes it could just be something as simple as a bad Ethernet cable or wireless card. And on the off chance you have a Belkin router throw it in the garbage and buy either a Linksys or Netgear.

Looks like everyone else has you covered for good suggestions if it is PC related.

My specs are similar to yours except i'm using a gtx 470 and 8gb of ram. I also use gamebooster to shut all the crap off while im playing, seems to help. might wanna try gamebooster if you don't feel like going through your pc manually shutting no priority services down.

I've already checked my connection and there is no issue there, and I've checked pretty much everything I could on my PC, so I'm jumping to the conclusion that I have faulty ram, or possibly CPU. I'm going to be building a new PC in the future, but I have no funds to do so now so I'd like to at least make this game playable until then. I'm going to give gamebooster a try, though I dot have much hope in it helping a whole lot. Worth a shot!

Just a quick update to this issue; what eternalwinter suggested(setting the game to low priority) for some crazy arse reason WORKS! I get to actually enjoy the game on high settings with VERY little to no stuttering whatsoever.. Thank you eternal for this tip, I owe you some co-op help or something .

That's great to hear! I know that some applications are designed to run at specific priorities and that it relates to changes in how multi-core processors distribute load, but now I'm curious how that all works......curiosity and google can be a real life killer!

First, let me say that I don't think vertical sync would ever influence a game's choppiness. It just prevents tearing of the image when the monitor's refresh cannot keep in step with the frame rate.

While the OP's system is indeed a bit dated hardware wise, I wonder if his friend's are also using 5400 RPM hard drives or are they instead 7200 RPM? This could be the greatest bottleneck in the system. When you're moving faster, the drive must fetch data at an increased rate. Have you run a Windows Performance Index? Is your rating also the rating of your drive?

I recently replaced my 7200 rpm gaming drive with a 500GB SSD and I have noticed a world of difference in the speed, both in Windows and games. I rarely run lower than 100 fps in any game with graphics at maximum. In single-player BF3, it was around 180 fps. If purchasing any new hardware is an option, I would consider an SSD. They really are dropping in price lately. I just picked up a 60GB one for $49.

No matter what video setting I run it at, my game gets very "choppy". Half of the time it's smooth enough to not care, but the other half it chops so bad that its barely playable.

I'm not talking about video lag either. When it's not chopping, I get around 25-30 FPS on high settings, and obviously way more on low. Also, when I'm standing still, just looking around, it runs PERFECTLY.. But when I move my character(running or driving) is when it will start chopping. I feel as though it happens when the game has to load textures or models. My computer is a little old, but it's better than the minimum specs by a decent amount. Anyone else have this problem?

    My PC specs:
    AMD Athlon X2 4450e
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    MSI nVidia 650 Ti
    650w PSU
    250GB 5400rpm HDD
Fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Like I said I know I could use an upgrade, but regardless of that I believe I should be able to run Defiance at least on low settings with no issues. I don't have any problems on any other games I play. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The only thing I could see a major issue is the CPU. This game is CPU heavy. I have a i7-875k If I lower it back to 3.5Ghz I start to get choppy FPS and likes to stay around 50FPS. When I overclock it back up to 4Ghz the issue is gone and my FPS is around 100-120 and tight space 150-200. Max setting GTX 670 overclock edition and overclock some more.

They dont' have i7 875k but they have i7 870 stock bench vs your cpu:

Just to give you an idea.
