Friend unable to play

[Forsaken Demon]

My friend just got this game and after he finally finished the install/patches, he's unable to do anything past that. He can get to the character selection screen but that's about it. He gets no audio/cutscene but the subtitles still come up. Or, he gets part of the cutscene except the characters are all shadows and the full cutscene isn't there: parts aren't loading or floating on nothing. And it won't let him create a character. It shows a black character model but doesn't give any options for customization or anything. There isn't even a menu. That's if he's lucky. Otherwise it's just a plain black screen.

So he tried turning off his console, unplugging his harddrive and deleting his patch data but nothing's working. Though now he can't even get past the loading screen after choosing new game.
