Trion need to dangle the carrots to keep players playing long term.

Its early days though so there is time.
That's exactly the kind of addiction driven gaming that's ruined the industry, and why a company like Zynga can rake in boatloads of money off of terrible games. Defiance definitely needs more content, but not that kind.

That and it looks like Freight Yard map might get the boot... There goes my platinum, other people's platinums, and Xbox achievement hunters...

This is a shooter, does anyone else here remember WW2 Online? What about Planetside or Planetside 2? PS2 came out on November 20, 2012 and finally, after months of a complete lack of metagaming, they finally added the 'quest' system that made PS2 comparable to PS1 in the metagaming catagory.

Sure, you could argue that this game is more based on PVE content, so maybe let's compare it to another 60 dollar, no sub fee game like Borderlands 2. It took me about the same amount of time to go through all the content in both BL2 and Defiance...so what's wrong here?

Is it because this is a mmo? This isn't Defiance 2, so it can't be compared directly to GW2, compare it to GW1, and with that sort of comparison it's about on even ground for the first 3 weeks after release.

Wow...seriously...every single mmo that has been released for the last 3-5 years gets this exact same treatment, if your tired with the content go play something else for a month and when you come back I'm sure Trion will have released something by then. It's Trion, not Blizzard-Activision, they're going to release content more then once every 6 months.

I love this game lol, no MMO is perfect so I pay no mind to the cons pointed out and whined about frequently. The only issue I'm concerned with is not being able to platinum Defiance because developers might give the Freight Yard map the boot...

In other games I'd agree but outfits vehicles etc are just cosmetic (ok so vehicles have stats but personally I drive what I think looks good) so it doesn't really matter if you get that reputation outfit etc you'd be doing it for vanity not for stats. At the end of the day though it does boil down to money like it or not. If defiance survives it needs to make money and free content is from a business perspective just a hook to keep people playing and hopefully spending cash. As long as the paid content is cosmetic I see no problems only advantages.

They already said that if anything like that happens then they'd change the achievements etc.

Glad somebody said it. If this game even halfway measured up to Rift it would be pretty damn special. Kinda seems like the people who developed this were ones that applied to work on Rift but didn't get the job.

It takes hours to create content which can be done in minutes. There is no way developers can pump out quality content at a fast enough rate to satisfy the hardcore gamers.

For a shooter, the key to success is turning it into a sort of e-sports. LOL, Dota, every damn multi-player FPS on the planet didn't had vast amount of content. They just equip people with guns/magic and let them at each other. Therefore, I believe Trion should not neglect PVP. We should have more maps or even formats like DOTA. For PVE players it could come as a tower defense like format in which for every enemy killed you make the other team's enemy a bit stronger so one side eventually gets overwhelmed.

Wrong. He responded in that blog that even if they do take freight out for good, which they are NOT considering currently, all relevant pursuits amd achievements/trophies would be changed.

Agreed for more servers... But think it's bs how your in a group with friends and you bounce out of their "phase" especially if they are helping you with a mission...

agree with OP, an thanks for the read. I have had some issues, but I too have played WoW from the beginnings...Defiance still is ahelofalot better over that fiasco, even with loosing items/gear/wpns an not having them tracked, I still love this game. Voice chat needs to be fixed after co op missions, groups, etc. end, so you dont have to log out an back on to get it to work. ands jules you can go to join phase when you are in groups (or they can)
