Neither had I, until I did the most epic side mission in the history of endgame content. Oddly, I was to restore three fully functional turrets on the side of the road. Between the second and third turrets, there was a MASSIVE wall of enemies. Seriously, the whole road was solid red on the minimap. It was an army of hellbugs and an army of raiders having an all-out WAR.
After getting rushed by over 100 skitterlings (and having the awesome satisfaction of mowing them down in one clip), I began to drill my way through the war. A few other players had even noticed the madness and could barely cope with fighting the enemies. When I finally got to the third turret, I noticed a hulker wreaking havok on yet another army of hellbugs.
As soon as the hulker turned its attention to me, the hellbugs started trying to destroy the turret. They swarmed around it and started to melee it, even though they couldn't kill it. After some time of fighting the hulker, it decided to wipe out the crowding hellbugs. With a SINGLE punch to the ground it killed at least 4 warriors and 2 archers.
Then a monarch came up from the ground and had its turn at trying to kill the hulker. At this point I had almost completely lost it; they almost teamed up on me and I had to run my *** off as they both chased me. Then they turned on each other, and within four smashes, the monarch was in pieces. This left only me to deal with the hulker, and after exhausting nearly all my remaining ammo, the bastard finally dropped. I repaired the third turret and was righteously compensated a whopping one thousand xp for completing that side mission.
I know this was probably a glitch, but every side mission should be like this. At least, they should have frequent large-scale battles between two enemy factions. This was definitely my best Defiance experience yet.
EDIT: In case you want to know where this took place: you know that area where you can buy the good vehicles, on the peninsula to the west of the map? The road is directly north of there, across the water. You should check it out.
tl;dr: The only thing that can kill a hulker is an ark-hunter.
