I made a thread about htis a week ago...I duno what all the disagreement about the review is all about. IGN's review is spot on and I dont think they couldn't have reviewed it any better. Unless you are a fanboy (in which you are) and cant take criticism w/out becoming defensive, then yea! of course your going to disagree with the review. IGN's review is HONEST, UNBIASED and REAL. Every thing they said hit the nail on the dead. Funny thing is with the fanboys in thie community/forum is if you disagree with anyone, say the game sucks, agree with the bad reviews, prove people wrong, you are a "Troll" its funny.

    gamer or addict.

if you beat the games main story in two days time. Then id say your the one with a problem, not the developer. Its like the crackhead who wants more crack, after he just smoked his whole stash.
Ive been playing for 2 weeks now and I'm ego 480. Ive just found out the mayor lady has some brother, who i assume is Nim. I constantly get sidetracked in this game. If i'm not pvping, co ops, pursuits, racing, rampaging, or running over skitterlings with my atv at Arkfalls. This game is just entertaining, especially for console.

Rating this game is pretty simple:

If you judge the game based on exactly what is delivered at the time of playing it, that's the IGN and other reviews that are highly(and rightfully) critical of it.

If you judge a game based partially on game play and as well buying into the ole pitfall of thinking of "potential, hope, plan to, etc" then you'll rate the game higher.

I have to agree with the IGN and other similar reviews that are highly critical of the game. The industry is being saturated at the moment with mediocre to horrible games that cash in on player's faith in things becoming better. Good games dont have to rely on smoke and mirrors to puff up a game to attempt to change the perception of it as being more than it actually is.

If you play Defiance for about an hour or 2 then say ok, I played it, I'm done now, and it sucks. You are just short changing yourself.
The problem really is though... you can play Defiance for 2 hours and get the entire gist of the game. The only thing that really changes are the enemies. They don't get much harder they just add shields and some elemental based weapons. The only enemies that are worth Mentioning as being different are Scrappers.

So are you saying 2 days actual play time or 2 days straight? Because this games main story + side quests is only 48 hours if you don't wipe after wipe after wipe on bosses ect. This includes completing at least 30 Ark Falls of varying size. Mostly Majors... this game once you finish the main story is a grind with no direction.

Currently, the only review I've seen that gives Defiance justice is the one in the latest Game Reactor magazine around the UK. It gives it 7/10, which may not be amazing but the writer has reviewed it in it's current state and it's potential. Something which all other review have failed to do. It seems that if a game doesn't have 'Of Duty' or 'Of War' in it's title then it stands no chance. As yet there isn't a link on the official site but as soon as it's available I'll post it. Cue the "Pics of it didn't happen" bull****tery.

Sites like IGN and Gamespot have focused solely on the games bugs and reviewed them. It's a total shame because being two of the biggest gaming sites people will religiously believe their words as gospel truth.

As I've said many times before, Defiance has a following of true players who - regardless of the many bugs which admittedly do get to us sometimes - we play on and enjoy the game for what it is.

    Happy Ark Hunting!

Well, any reviewer that rates a game considering its potential down the road should not be reviewing it. A game's potential, honestly, doesn't mean squat. I can name a list of MMOs that all had potential, and never achieved that potential because the development team was either not up to the task, the bean counters felt it better for the company to take portions of the development team and assign them to a different project, the game bled enough players that the bean counters felt it best to invest resources into a different project, and combinations of the three.

A review should be based solely on the current state of the product. Not a hope or dream of what it might eventually become, if everything falls into place and stays in place on the studio/business side of things.

Yeah, I play Defiance. I find it fun, though the tedium is settling in a lot faster than in a normal MMO (and I play on an extremely limited schedule to boot, so the tedium hitting this quickly really gives me pause), but a 7/10? Unfortunately, I don't see it. Not in its current state. Having been around MMOs for 14 years, having seen all types of launches, all types of buggy launches, and a myriad of launch issues, I would only rate Defiance thus far at a 5/10.

Could it eventually hit a 7/10? Sure. When DC Universe Online launched, I would have given that game a 5/10. Two years later, I would give it a 7/10 without question. But that game also had to go Free-to-Play and give itself away to get players back, revenue incoming (cash shop, which SOE claims has been a huge success for them in that game), and a host of other sacrifices to get there. Defiance is already Buy-to-Play with no subscription, so they have a lot less room to maneuver if they bleed enough players that the cash shop and DLC revenue is not in-bound.

Every MMO, even SWTOR, even CoH up to its final day this past November, has a following of true players. Hell, I personally know people who have stuck with Age of Conan all this time and through all of its issues. Having a following of true players is never the question. The question is whether that following is large enough to generate enough consistent revenue for the company to continue a worthwhile level of financial and manpower investment in the game. In the case of Defiance, is that following large enough to generate enough Cash Shop and DLC revenue, since Defiance has no other stream to tap?

    If not . . . .

So you're calling the opinion and recommendation of one person wrong.

    Interesting.

Well, remember what they gave for Mass Effect 3. Never take IGN seriously
