I just bought the game off Steam this morning. Every time I try to install it I get a message that says "Patch Error Please Try again later." I was on the Help Chat with Support & they couldn't do a thing to fix this.
I don't have any betas installed. I tried the update with Avast & Windows Defender disabled. I restarted my computer & tried. I'm still getting the same message.
Does anyone know a fix for this, because Trion Support sure doesn't.
i have the same problem... i'm going completely ape**** over this piece of **** launcher that just WILL NOT PATCH :/ they better fix this within a week otherwise i'm asking for a refund
I am getting this problem and I'm very irritated. I'm about to go get my money back. Tired of all the lags and constant bugs. This game is totally broken beyond all belief.
I already called my bank. I was told to first ask Trion for a refund and, in the event they refuse, my bank will file a claim for a reimbursement from Trion when they debit my credit card. Done deal. yup its in my 2nd day having the same problem.
I just got it to work using this fix on the Trion World Support site. Apparently, I still had a beta file installed but it was a hidden file. After I found & deleted it the game installed & runs fine. Hopefully this helps some one else.
Here is the fix I used:
"Please make sure to delete any DEFIANCE-Alpha, DEFIANCE-Beta or DEFIANCE folders that are located in this directory. If you do not have the option to select ‘AppData’ with your Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) open, use the following steps.
Select the ‘Organize’ drop down menu in the top left hand corner of your window.
Click the option and select ‘Folder and Search Options’, then select the ‘View’ tab.
Here we can select the option to ‘Show hidden files, folders and drives’.
With your hidden files showing, you should be able to find the ‘AppData’ folder."

Only this doesn't work for XP because the paths for files are different. However I am also pretty sure that they do have some hidden files that are misnames and cannot be found. It's very irritating.
