True dat. I love GameStop, decent prices, good selection of used games and lots of game related swag. I also like the magazine and its website and I like the PowerUp rewards program(I've already earned enough points for a few add ons and some MS points). Their staff on the other hand is just......lame I guess is the word. I once went in to pick up a copy of Forza Horizon because I was looking for a decent racing game that didn't have brutal physics. The clerk saw my choice and told me I'd be better off getting a PS3 and Gran Turismo. I told him I wasn't a fan of GT and he said yeah, I guess you're more of a casual gamer. I don't know if he said this because I'm pretty old(40) of because I was looking for a casual racer. Never mind the fact that I've been gaming since 1981 and am as hardcore as anyone half my age, I just wish GameStop employees took the same approach that bookstore employees do and keep their effing mouth shut when I'm buying something.

I personally am not ok with buying a product I have no prior information on.
No, being an intelligent consumer would be doing your research beforehand. CSR's don't care about whether an item is right for their consumer or not, all they care about is the sale because they have goals they have to meet every week.

Just to play devil's advocate here,

Wasnt the sales person just trying to help by giving their opinion on a game? I like the game, but it does have issues, issues the casual audience likely doesn't know about.

If someone was buying a game that had such a rough launch, wouldnt you warn a customer?

Obviously alot depends on the tone of the conversation, but just wanted to throw it out there.

But I do remember buying demon's souls knowing nothing about it, I asked the sales guy if it was any good and he said that "the game is way too hard, you probably wont like it." Turns out being one of my favorite game of this gen.

No. I wouldn't warn a customer unless they specifically asked for information.

True, however, if you know the right questions to ask and arnt looking for an opinion, then it wont matter if they are trying to up-sell it. I mean, if your just walking into the store and saying "Is this game any good?" well, what do you expect. You walked in like a sucker your going to get treated like a sucker. On the other hand, questions such as "How is the game for bugs? Whats the customer support like? How many copies have you sold recently?" These are questions that dont so much allow for up-selling unless the cashier is willing to outright lie to you.

Again though, these are questions you can not receive an answer to from people who know nothing about that game or games in general. I call it fast-food hiring. No experience, no intelligence necessary, just be willing to work long hours for minimum wage and no benefits. And when you walk into and look at these businesses, its painfully obvious. The employees are stupid and dont care about the business, the customers that are willing to shop there generally only do so after going multiple different other places and not finding what they wanted so they are already in a bad mood to begin with, the store is dirty and cluttered, and for the most part no one, not the customers or employees, actually want to be there.

It seems like every Gamestop I go to there's some smart little hipster, prick kid behind the counter giving his opinion and flirting with me. Shut up and take my money!

I would rather have an honest sales person than someone that just said everything is good.
