    I believe you also have to be over a certain ego rating (100 or 150ish) to start looting special weapons like BMGs, Infectors, Detonators and Rocket Launchers.

    I believe there was one from a side quest on the later missions. I was actually lucky and got a BMG from one of the store's in the Special item for the hour, and 2 kills later got one from a hellbug.
