This is a debate about the game not about what i will or wont play, you're not that bright.
They'll (the FF staff) let you continue after the beta, because they're trying to make up with their costumers since the game was in beta for like 2 years and they already have sold it in stores. You can't compare that.
FF XIV is a completely different story. It's called 2.0 because they did a full retail release already last year for the PC version. People went to the store and actually purchased the full game and set up their subscriptions. However the game was so incomplete that to save face they refunded the monthly fees that had already been paid and allowed anyone who purchased the game to play for free in what they dubbed an "extended beta" while they worked on making it a more fully featured and playable experience.
When they shut servers down on 1.0 they locked existing characters for transfer into 2.0 because those players had already purchased the game at retail and since Square Enix messed up that wouldn't be fair to players to delete their characters. FF XIV also isn't available on PS3 yet and to my knowledge they haven't started the 2.0 beta on consoles yet.
FF XIV is a special circumstance, standard procedure on MMO betas is to wipe existing characters at launch.
thanks for that, i can live with a wipe,if anything it will be good for character refinement and many features seem inactive atm

Final Fantasy 14 was a complete and udder wash of a game, it was so bad that they never charged a substiption fee and allowed everyone who was playing to play for free till they shut down the servers.
You also got into the BETA and of course they would let them keep their characters/name and such, I don't know about levels and professions, but still they deserve it.
..... also remember that we were given in game currency to use so we can get epic guns/armor and try them out. This is just to wet out whistle and give us something to farm for when the game comes out.
If you are given everything you want then you wouldn't play this game or any game longer than a day.
Why do you think it's so hard for people to understand this is a BETA of a MMO and not a "almost" ready demo?
