lowest customer satisfaction ever w/ this game

let me start by saying I do NOT want this post to resemble a flamethrower.

something positive: this game looks fun, and I can't wait to start playing it. the youtube videos have got me really hopeful that this will be an engaging, fun gaming experience.

something else positive: I sincerely, from deep down within myself hope this game does fantastically, not just in the short run, but also in the long run.

now let me try and be as gentle as I can in my customer review of my experience with this product.

I bought the game 3 days ago, and I'm still patching.

I don't think I want to say anything else because it wouldn't be productive. I think Tyrion knows where it's got work to do so I won't deviate from this generally positive report of my initial dissatisfaction with this product.

If it's taking you three days to patch the game, it's not an issue with the game or the software, it's an issue with your network settings. If you take a look at the Resource Monitor (if you're on PC), under networks you should see Patcher.exe (after, of course, you've launched the patcher / launcher for the game). Under Network Activity it will show what the patcher is doing in terms of what it is connecting to (IP address), what data it is sending, what data it is receiving, and how fast. Under TCP Connection, you will see the IP address you are working from, the ultimate IP address of the patch server, the port which it is speaking through (443), packet loss, and latency. The last two are the most important. If you have experiencing packet loss or any significant latency (say, more than 100), it is likely that there is some sort of issue with how you are connecting. Sometimes it is as simple as checking your firewall settings to make sure you have cleared the patcher to access the ports it needs although you may also need to do this through your router.

You really need to check with your Network Administrator.

I mean I have an average of 20mbps dl and no patch has ever taken me more than an hour.

    I don't think this is trion's fault.

Dont get me wrong though, the game has it's quirks

TC is correct. It also took me 3 days to patch the game. The 11 hour update was almost done then I got a patch error and had to download another 11 hour update. The second update failed and I had to download another 8 hour update.

I've downloaded over 50 games from Steam and been a part of 7 MMO's and never have I had to spend 3 days patching a game. Most 10GB games take 6 hours at most. It's the worst Updater I've ever had to deal with.

The reason why it takes such a long time for "patches' is because you aren't downloading incremental patches for specific file replacements. You are literally downloading the entire client over again because someone at Trion doesn't know basic file pushing or patch support.

I've rarely (if ever) seen a game client handled in this manner, and it (as well as slow network speeds) is the reason it takes such extremely long times to patch the game. It's pretty amateurish from an IT standpoint.

I kinda have to agree with groo on this one.

Can we get a speed test?

I really think this has something to do with the ports you have open.

Basically, the Windows Resource Monitor (Win+R, type Resmon, hit Enter) will tell you the basics on what might be going on with your patching. If you are running any sort of firewall software or haven't opened ports on your router, you will have high latency and lose a lot of packets. That, in turn, will cause the potential corruption of any data downloaded from the patcher.exe as well as cause it to be very, very slow.

There are many things you can do to check this. You could run a speed test, go into the firewall settings (going into Windows Firewall and making sure Defiance is selected under Allow a program through the firewall), or you can check your router settings. If, after doing all of these things, you are still having the same issue, then when you open a ticket with support, you can give them detail on everything you've tried to correct the issue along with the result of what happened when you attempted it. This will prevent them from telling you the same things over and over again (if the agent in question is actually reading the ticket) and allow them to escalate this matter to the network engineer on the development team so he can research it and find a solution for you.

Do you really think that everyone here takes days to download the patch..only had one big one...which took 15 minutes? The game took and hour!
