    Why am I a Veteran?

    Classes in Defiance
When I was creating my character, I picked veteran because I love assault rifles and I thought I was going to gain some sort of affinity for them through progression (Not the gun rank but a Veteran specific skill tree). With that said, it would be interesting if each class (Outlaw, Veteran, Survivalist and Machinist) had different paths to follow with perks and active abilities to unlock (similar to the Ego Grid).

    The Classes
    Outlaw
Since their starting weapon is a shotgun, their skill grid would have perks / abilities geared towards shotgun affinity and close quarters melee combat.

    Veteran
Assault rifles feel like the most well rounded weapons so veteran's skill grid would be geared towards overall balance and the ability to fill any role; jack of all trades, master of none.

    Machinist
Slow, heavy and powerful. LMG all day. The machinist Grid would be geared towards big power and suppression.

    Survivalist
Sneaky, Hard to catch and deadly. Snipers are like the assassins of a third person shooter so their skill grid would be geared towards long range assassinations and stealth.

    The Grids
Just an idea of what some skills / perks on the grid could be.

    Outlaw
[Reckless Intentions] - Firing from the Hip with a shotgun increases your damage but reduces your accuracy.

[Bloody Melee] - When you melee with a shotgun equipped, you have a chance to make your target bleed.

[Pump it Faster] - +5% Reload speed with pump action shotguns

    Veteran
[Call Me Jack] - All weapons have increased accuracy

[Specialist] - When you complete a synergy set, you deal 5% more damage.

[Nano-Master] - Your nano effects deal additional damage.

    Machinist
[Power Gunner] - While firing LMG's you take 5% less damage

[Big Guns] - While using a LMG your movement speed is reduced by 20% but your damage dealth is increased by 10% and your damage taken is reduced by 5%

[Shielded](active ability) - Allies near you have 50% of their damage taken transferred to your shields.

    Survivalist
[Sniping Specialist] - (the center-of-the-grid skill) When Bolt action sniper rifles are equipped, head shots have a 50% chance to instant kill elite enemies. (this effect is reduced to 40% with semi automatic sniper rifles).

[Escape Grenades] - Your grenades create a small cloud of smoke after detention for a duration. Enemies that walk through the smoke will have their Hud disrupted.

[Long Range Killer] - Bolt action and Semi-automatic sniper rifles deal increased damage with increased distance from the target.

Any thoughts or ideas for class specific skills? Put them in the comments.
P.S. Don't make fun of the names I came up with for skills and perks!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be nice, but I think it would be too late to implement this. Everyone has already made their character, and probably picked their starting 'class' based on the look. It would screw over a lot of people who's playstyle doesn't fit into that the 'class' they chose.

I'm sure you could implement a free "class change" for anyone should they implement this, along with a free ego point redo.

With all due respect, I'd have to disagree. There are no 'classes' in Defiance, nor should there be. It's a shooter -- think Halo, not WoW -- and most shooters, by design, are designed to emphasize the skill of the player over gear or certain class choices, and Defiance falls pretty solidly in line with that. With no classes to get locked into, ech player has the exact same potential abilities, etc., thus making a more level playing field.

    I agree with this.

Did anybody here ever play Tabula Rasa? That mixed with Borderlands is pretty much what this game is. My point though was Tabula Rasa had classes you could choose from to get different skill sets and it was a shooter just like Defiance. It was really groovy too. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this in Defiance. It would make more of a need for teams and stuff. Right now anybody can do everything. A little individuality wouldn't hurt.

    Healers/Medics would certainly be welcome

But hey. I still love the game. Fun stuff. Don't want to see it go under

Class based play could add a sense of challenge to this game. There is absolutely no challenges at the moment, which is rather depressing. I would be up for the classes. The classes being more of a specialization, nothing that limits you with the weapons that you are able to use.

If they did classes and they had anything to do with healers, how would you beat bosses or go through the story line?

If you say they can still use guns like everyone else then that gives them an unfair advantage, if their damage is lower than everybody else then they have a disadvantage... The game is great as is. No need for classes when you can do everything. If you want a class type character stick to one ego ability dont map out all of them.
