There have been a few posts now where someone's thread is something like "so and so gave Defiance a negative review score and it's crap because that SITE is crap and can't be trusted" or "that PERSON gave Defiance a low score and it's stupid and wrong because he just wants attention or because his other review was wrong so that means this one is too, etc etc etc."

Just stop. STOP already!

Let me provide for you, in case you didn't know, an eye opener to the simple fact that there are PLENTY of sites that have given Defiance a mediocre review score, and plenty of those are credible well respected sites or magazines. So if you're going to take the time to discredit the source for one (to somehow justify to yourself that the not so stellar review MUST be wrong), you better do it for all of these people! Can't play favorites now because if your stance is that there is no way the game could get a mediocre score you've got beef with every single one of these sites and reviewers.

Oh wait, let me guess, the excuse is then going to be "oh well you can't trust professional reviewers!". Well wait a minute, I bet you wouldn't say that if I listed a bunch of reviews that gave the game a really high score! (even though there are very few of those). Oh no wait it's going to be "you can't review an mmo when it just releases, that's too early!" Sure, keep telling yourself that. I don't remember it being too early for RIFT, or The Secret World, or Guild Wars 2, or SWTOR, or Aion. That's because all those games launched relatively well and didn't have to make that excuse for low review scores. None of them launched perfectly no, but not nearly as rough as this game (minus the queue issue with the Aion launch for the first few days). Hell even SWTOR fans, while getting ripped to shreds on ratings, didn't really use that excuse.

Anyway, here you go, list your beefs with all of these people and discredit them all so you can prove how the score is wrong and it's an injustice to Defiance. And these are well known sites and magazines I listed, even though there are plenty of others with similar scores but they are more obscure and of course would be discredited just for that reason. And hey whaddya know! It's not just IGN on this list, and I didn't even put Angry Joe on there! And there are countless other similar scores and reviews from less known sources but I'm not going to post those because I know that will be discredited for the simple reason of being unknown.

most of the review scores seem fair, defiance definitely could be better as it feels like it should still be in beta. That being said the average ratings seem to be around 6.7 which sure isn't great, but in its current state can you really say defiance is a great game? Wait for a few months, when the problems are (hopefully) fixed, then review ratings will most likely rise

No they are from people that actually tried the game and found it lacking in a number of ways, buggy as hell and just not fun after a fairly short period of time. Thus the low scores, which are all pretty consistent across the board.

lol. Was just trying to be funny. I don't really care what anyone but myself thinks. Poor ratings don't keep me from a game. I respect their right to their opinion, even if it doesn't reflect mine.

I was perfectly willing to give the OP the benefit of the doubt on this one, until I noticed that every other game he compared it to was an RPG, not a shooter, and listed IGN and MMORPG as 'credible' reviews.

I'll say this yet again, anyone that will base a view or outlook on a game on what a review said is a tool. Who cares about reviews? I mean the only thing that maters is your having fun with the game and to hell with what others think. You must admit that for games like CoD to get near 10/10 ratings every year they put out a game is a little crazy. And thats the point that the people are trying to make with bashing reviewers and the view they have on said product. Its not that we think they are dumb or paid off, its because they realy do not know what they are talking about. The new bioshock even got a 10 and tbh that game was good but not worth a ten. And why did it get a ten? because the name bioshock was on the cover and much like clothing,gems,and cars its all in the name.

A review is just someone's opinion, maybe with some good points as to why that person didn't enjoy the game. But, everyone's opinion is different so, to someone else, those points might seem stupid or silly to hang up a game over -- as the saying goes, "one man's trash is another man's treasure." I only look at basic cons of games though, if I'm reading a review, and there really aren't a lot of game-breaking things out there for me (I play silly, or even bad games, casually or for fun since they might suck to devote tons of time to, but are still fun in their own little way).

Opinions are opinions, some people might agree and say "a hard to get-used to interface system for the PC version? Not going to deal with that" while others could care less. In the end, it's your money, your time, and you should be the one dictating what to do with it, versus someone who said "lol game sucks" on the internet. (Honestly, I like to watch the Angry Joe reviews since... they're a bit more candid, and while I don't agree with every point he makes, he does at least make good points/explains his personal stance on a game/particular feature of a game).

pfft, if I listened to online opinions I would never have played DmC, and I ended up loving that game. (reasons why I'll be hard pressed to consider myself in any "fandom" is the whole drama in the DMC one...)

Averaged out it's actually closer to 3.4/5 based on the 142 total reviews rather than the 38 pc download ones. Unless you were purposefully looking at one platform in which case a 3 is correct.

As for professional reviews versus user ones, both can be bought pretty easily in today's market. Professionals get free stuff and or cash, and paying some website to spam a few hundred user reviews isn't terribly expensive anymore. Neither are flawless, and it's all a matter of weeding through the crap to find what you want. I don't find the review numbers completely inaccurate (some are more biased than others) but expecting every game you enjoy to rate highly is probably not a great plan for gaming. Every EA game seems to be through the roof, but I think every one is a pile. It's just personal preference as they don't make my genre of games.
