    SOOOO chat still SUCKS

Are there any plans to actually make chat usable?

Because chat sucks no one talks in game at all. I might as well be playing a solo game off line, or play any other mmo that has a working chat system.

I played again tonight for the first time in a week and chat still sucks and the game seems to be exp more glitchy behavior than it was the last time I logged in.

When I use my LMG and use the right mouse button to aim my screen starts jumping around all crazy like and that's without shooting. When I do start shooting it jumps 90 degrees in random directions.

The action key seems to have issues also.

Run seems to have issues now also sometimes it works other times it doesn't.

When I get killed and try to release with mobs firing at me I can't, nor can I hit escape and log out. I had to use task manager to stop the game and reload it.

I second this notion, you can honestly tell they designed everything in this game around having console users and PC gamers all playing the same game.. Most console users dont utilize a keyboard to chat with people, they think the USB slot on the front of there ps3 is for charging controllers.. I have seen a couple people talk in chat but having the only channel to talk in be Local/Nearby is killing any type of MMO feel this game could have.. At its current state calling this a game a MMO is a bit pre-mature. MMO's all have some social aspect to the game, and this game has like 0 social factor.. I assumed it was because there are a bunch of console gamers that dont have keyboards.. There defiantly needs to have some sort of world chat and auction chats added to help spark more of a social community within the server..

Run is a toggle is what the issue is, when you stop pressing all directions(generally what happens when you strafe or rotate around) sprint turns off regardless if your holding the button, so you just gotta retap it.

This game is still an mmo, its Massively Multiplayer Online. The social aspect of a game has zero influence in a genre of a game.

I am definitely not a fan of chat right now, but I can see why they went with no global chat, its a good concept for immersion since this game is based on a show that people don't all link together in one radio frequency to chat at all times. "Oh but people dont just die n the show and come back!" theres still a limit to what you can do for a game...

An active way to look for groups or encourage group play with bonuses would definitely help with social play in the game. Or possibly make it where you can do something like a "distress/help signal" that can be used to advertise your looking for group with a limit to how frequent you can advertise it possibly globally or at a very large radius. Id rather not have a chat where you can talk globally all willy nilly. I am sick of the WoW comments that go in almost every damn mmo that comes out, espcially newer ones. It's nice to not see face palming comments in chat. Though some comments period would be nice.

But about the idea of limiting global chat to where you cant just chat in it. If you want a chat room, join one, even a defiance user made chat room somewhere, but id like to see global be mostly game related. I kinda like this "immersion" (i quote cause theres not really much of it) that im somewhat apart of this reality now without chat reminders that your guy is just another alter ego.

I think chat just needs to stand out a bit more. Ive noticed people trying to talk to me after a while just cause i scrolled through the log for something. When you are tunnel visioned in shooting down enemies it tends to be overlooked when someone talks. I guess Chat bubbles would help too if there isnt any.

As chat is now people could be talking and I would not know because there is no chat box. I would have to open chat full screen to be able to see it. The way chat works now it might as well not exist at all.

There should be a 100% on chat box and I should have the option to turn it on or off as I please. There should be at a minimum local and regional channels for general chat and then the usual group, clan etc.

    Yes please.
I cant talk to clan mates.

When I type in general chat the text is orange.
When clan maes type in clan chat, it is pink.
When I type in clan chat (or try), I see nothing.

This has to be dealt with.

1- We need a resizeable and moveable chat window
2- We need an ingame private message system. Bonus: MMOs keep records of ingame PMs. Yea...we know.

This is very important because it builds community, and keeps groups (clans) close-knit. Players play longer when they have ingame friends, so it's in Trions best interest to revamp the chat system.

I always figure I must be doing it wrong, when I read these threads...

Contrary to the 'Nobody Ever Chats' mantra, I do area chat in game. Fairly often, especially at arkfalls (thanks for the revive, nice job all, etc.). I just hit [ENTER], type what I want to say, hit [ENTER] again, and it shows up in the chat box right above the chat line. Just like every other MMO I play. The chat box is shorter than most MMOs defaults, but I generally shrink my chat box to a few lines max in games where that's an option anyway. Maybe that's why it doesn't really bother me. I can always just hit [ENTER] to bring it up, and mouse wheel up and down over it to see previous chat anyway, if I think I missed something.

I've had several people send me private tells in game (asking about where I got x item, what weapons I was using, did I want to join a clan). I saw them fine, and replied to them privately. The people saw my responses fine, or certainly seemed to, since we did converse normally. The few times I've grouped, I saw group chat fine, too. I'm not in a clan, so I can't speak to those issues.

I for one wouldn't be eager for global chat, for most of the reasons folks already covered about that. If they want to add a selectable global channel that'd be okay -- I wouldn't begrudge other people having it, though I'd likely turn it off myself and stick to the area chat we have now.

The only real issue I have at all with chat is that I'm often seeing notifications about people on my friends list, like "playerx is the leader of the group", "playerx has entered such-and-such", when I'm not only not grouped with them, I'm not anywhere near that person. I don't really need to know what everyone on the friends list is constantly doing way off somewhere else, so I keep meaning to look in the options to see if there's a way to filter that out, since that does kind of annoy me.

There seems to be a mutual understanding between us players and the devs that chat is horrible. I suspect it will change from it's current form. Hopefully, drastically.

I wonder if some people use voice chat instead of text chat. Of course I don't hear them because I have voice chat muted.

Once in a while I see "Thanks" after reviving someone, or the occasional "hey" when joining a co-op. Other than that, not much. Well there was this one guy talking in german, but I don't understand a word of german :P
