You can't mess up anyones missions.

You can't really take anything away from them if they hit the mob at least once or if there are so many mobs that they don't care anyway or if none of the mobs are part of any contract.
That being said if you see someone killing Skitterlings at an emergency and '40 Skitterlings in Marin' is one of the daily contracts then things look quite different and you look like an *** if you run them over with your car.

If you're around someone elses mobs they get their HP raised which can be both good and bad and I like other players around whether they pull their own weight or not ... more HP with you not shooting means more weapon exp for me which is actually nice when I want to level my skills.

If you just kill one mob at eg. Mine 99 and then stop moving or run away until the whole thing is finished you might get one not necessarily unjustified unplesant chat messages or two since you really are leeching ... not against the games rules though and I personally don't give a damn since I'd complete the mission anyway, but heads up can't hurt saw someone typing a long list of asteisks earlier.

ps: There are pretty much no Hellbug exclusive missions in Marin and they die in one shot which makes Skitterlings in Marin a bit of a special case as you in fact could be stealing kills.

pps: Diablo Station and blast pods would be another example, killing them would be very rude but you should take at least deal one hit to each to get the credit.

If I'm doing a pursuit and the person who stops doesn't bumrush the mobs I need I share. However, if the person is just going around and killing only the mobs I need (because they need them too), I will try to shoot explosive barrels and kill them. I'm all for sharing and co-op.
If you are on some big event with me I generally try to throw out some party invites, because in REAL mmos parties share xp and kills, and maybe one day, Defiance will too. (lol who am I kidding)

I always feel a little hesitant about jumping in too, but I like to try to stop and help people if they look like they could use it. Nobody has seemed mad about it yet, and I definitely don't mind someone doing the same with me. Especially if you have milk and cookies.

It seems at times like the game tends to scale the enemies to the mere presence of players around, so I sort of feel bad about being there and then NOT helping, if it's made things tougher on them already.

Well in theory its nice. But the chat system is so terrible anyways with only one line visible, that its just as likely if you take the time to type something they miss it anyway. I can't wait til the fix the chat window. (supposedly coming)

'Raiders at Farms' today ended up with a 3 people group real quickly and it does make a difference, since mission areas are phased at least sometimes (haven't really figured that one out) we drove out of the area together and back in to get fresh mobs for the 15 kills.

USUALLY, I like getting and giving help from/to other players. However, the more people that join, the higher the enemy mobs' HP pools get, so it is slightly annoying. Especially when whoever else is around isn't the greatest at aiming, so you're pretty much soloing mobs with higher HP.. Oh well though it's not that big of a deal.

Honestly it's great, I frankly love seeing how easily people just go into instant "army" mode and work brilliantly well together without even communicating, covering each other while moving up, flanking. Seemless, just brilliant.

I third this. Seriously though I appreciate the help especially when I randomly get swarmed by a Tanker or even worse a Hulker. Most people do like to pair up I think, and normally when someone helps me I usually do the cheer emote as a way to say thanks.
Ask me about my OCs if you want.

Oh, please jump in, like NOW. I love when people come from nowhere and suddenly the enemies start to look disoriented, not knowing who to attack. That's so much fun.
