Yeah, I noticed the careful wording they used:

Artists from the Defiance series will render the winner’s likeness into a special place in an upcoming episode!

So as mentioned your in-game character is going to be drawn on some "Wanted" poster or something for all of 2 seconds and possibly make a reference to San Fran. Yay.

I'm starting to get more disappointed every day. If this "contest" is how things will be determined for future events then I'm not really excited. I know it's only been 3 episodes out of 13 and we still have an entire second season but so far the cross-over stuff has been nonexistent.

The contest is also about collecting Ark Salvage and being efficient. It is [ (total salvage earned during the 2 weeks) divided by (hours played within that 2 weeks) ] then we are encouraging efficient gameplay and not forcing a grind. That's the idea.

Simple math:
do you realize that any number divided by one (Ex: 10/1= 10) will always be higher than the same number divided by a larger number (Ex: 10/2 = 5).. in this case, the longer you play the more likely it will hurt your average.
