    The Show

I have also learned that Defiance has some really great things to offer by way of entertainment. There are a wide variety of threats, story archs, characters, and an almost unlimited amount of direction this story can go. I am excited to see where Defiance goes for the rest of the season.

I think they just screwed up. Sadly it seems to happen frequently. They really need to work on communication among the game & screen writers.
Yeah I tend to agree, but I will give them room to get out of this one. Anyways a distinction could be made between hearing and sensing vibrations. Hearing is turning vibrations into sounds which the brain can reckognice, performed by organs commonly found in the ear. Bats are known using ultrasone frequency to navigate in the air, but they hear these sounds. A mole can find insects to eat by feeling vibrations from his whiskers, snout and sensitive front feet. A mole also has very sensitive hearing. Different ways of sensing through vibrations.

The hellbug could be a mix of these, being sensitive on the body clearly it has no whiskers. It could perhaps deduct and sense some frequencies understanding them like a bat would, but not having the typical hear, thus not callign it hearing. Words and sounds mean nothing to it. We hear the screech and sounds it makes, but it could very well also produce frequency in the ultrasonic region. Actually such things are a necessity as frequency tend to be distorted and- or absorbed and ultrasonic is useful to bats for its usefulness in nature )catching bugs, navigation, what comes back makes sense to them.

Having only scent would make no sense at all.

From the first four minutes of the show we learned not to go out in the woods alone and always to carry a good weapon as the jogger soon found out.

Hellbug scent can be used as a weapon to cause hellbugs to attack someone as in the bed part at NeedWant, hellbug attack on the girl, and the doctor's comments for her to go wash and burn the clothes. The other side of it was the use of hellbug poop to mask their scent down in the tunnel.

blooper department: Forgot name of girl who came into town with others. She had cut above left eye with blood in it. Rest of shots of her just showed the pink wound where the blood should have been.

I think the fresh blood was one of the visions, nobody else saw it.

I learned going jogging by yourself in the woods with headphones on in a post-apocalyptic world is probably not the best idea.

I'm curious as to the lack of tech in the town of Defiance. Don't they have computers, and such?
That is based on the miner and his comment about a lack of a computer, to explain all his paper work.

I did like the effects they did with the hellbugs. I wish we could use the pheromone trick during an arkfall.

No computers, no long range comms because the atmosphere makes them no work, and yet the mayor has a routine conference vid with somebody from San Fran in the first episode that she has to be reminded of so as not to forget.

Tech in Defiance is almost Star Trek level all over the map where stuff that they can do simply one episode is impossible the next.
