Have you ever played GW2? Go check it out and come back here.
Before the addition of a new item rarity for some slots that only truly impact one dungeon you can get craft highest tier items.

It's all about special weapon or armor skins and in case of Defiance simply a question of a % increase for the chance to obtain higher tier rarites and/or more keys.

WoW with guns will kill the game for me

I like being able to log in for any length of time, and do whatever.

I love how accessable this game is currently.Trion can check my /played

IF raid loots and gated content happens I will reevaluate my gameplay time.

I would go as far to say that putting "best" gear in an instance --no matter how accessable -- will kill the open world.. Please think outside the Skinner Box.

You do realize that part in bold happened exactly because of the same rampant whining we see here?

And it doesn't just "impact one dungeon". It's a higher tier of loot added specifically to reward group instance grinding that outpaces any other available loot for those slots.

It all but killed dungeon running (other than Fractals), and I've yet to return to GW2 to see if they were ever able to save the world map from being completely empty 99% of the time with the changes to non-static dailies...

Yes, I adamantly disagree with the removal of key codes from all emergencies.

I reserve the right to take personal offense at anyone who disagrees with me, because I find blatant stupidity offensive.

OP.. no.. it wasn't "instances" or "elitist raiders" that killed swg.. it was a multitude of things.. namely, the fading of the original creation philosophy that was a working relationship between the devs and the players. Then came the restructure, from SOE with new "leaders" who essentially wanted to abandon their current player base and attempt doing something WoW did, by making brain-dead, instant loot content while at the same time demolishing the player created collaboration and in depth crafting and story telling.
The failure was making a DRASTIC change, down to the UI, of everything they had working right.

Instances don't kill a game.. raids don't kill a game, loot doesn't kill a game, what kills a game is making EVERYTHING too easy, what kills it is not listening at all to the players, and not using sound judgement and not TESTING before making permanent changes.

Rift.. Trion's very well made, bar-setting mmorpg does this. What they did was establish a game where the content had a varied mix of simple to extremely difficult. Where going into an instance you would face mobs and bosses that had few blatant tells as to what they were going to do next (and thankfully.. no giant raid warning flashing signs in giant text saying things like "move out of the way"....but yay.. addons are still around to ruin that experience now a days). While the crafting, or general methods of living in the game may not be nearly as diverse, mind you, they did take what was good about ALL of the past and current MMORPG's and mold it together into a comprehensive and entertaining game.

Another thing they did right with Rift.. open PTS, to include honorable invites to private testing servers for other proposed changes or content. For the most part, they ask for and take advice concerning up coming changes or possible changes, they also discuss the why and how, and if it is possible. They also do something I have not seen many do in their games.. EVER, and that is, they hop online, live, and chat it up in game with the players.. having some fun and asking them questions as well as answering them (between sifting through trolls). The only other games with that much interaction between Dev's, GM's and players has been EQ1, and SWG pre SOE...

Like many things in life, anything can be done the wrong way as much as the right way.. I welcome more instances.. and larger "raid" type ones with grps of 8+, along with several other concepts.. so long as they do a better job of:

    *fixing current issues
    *communicating with the community

then we can move onto opening test servers, readjusting crafting, daily game play, introducing other types of content, and creating something more in depth.. as a more in depth, and diverse playerbase will offer better content for the show-game concept.

If done right raids can be fun, my problem is barring people from content. I have a friend who has 3 kids, a full time job and works on the side, needless to say I blew past him in ego rating but right now that doesnt matter. If he needs certain guns to get into a raid to hold up with everyone else without some kid on coms screaming to "do more dps noob" then no i dont want any part of that. Same reason why I said I would LOVE open world pvp theres nothing more fun but I wont go for something that will bar PvE players from zones because they dont want to deal with someone sniping them from a ridge upon entry.

haha.. going open world pvp would change defiance sooo much, that people would ignore mobs, and creep around in stealth. I'd tag an arkfall for the codes, and then go back to sniper players trying to do the arkfall... or rain down unlimited hell with AOE rockets/detonators from an ammo crate... hahahahaha..

it would never happen in defiance.. the best you could hope for is a "badlands" type zone that auto flags you to pvp.. and wish you can make it across..

exactly thats why i posted an idea to allow an open world pvp that allows participation and reward without making everyone join in. I didnt just say erh mah godz i hate your plans, I did post alternatives that dont bar anyone from content. Like I said before this post isnt about opening a huge debate or making people think i hate defiance, hell I just bought the gray and black camo truck, but to get my voice out there. The devs said they listen to the forums and so this is me stating my opinion and I can fully agree to disagree with people if they dont see my point of view, I also feel there is a way to get everything in and still come to terms that both parties feel is fair. My analogy before still sits firm, if you don't cast your vote before the poll ends dont ***** about whose in office, this is just my vote whether the time comes in 2 weeks or 2 years to discuss the content at hand at trion offices.

How could I be so blind and not see this? It should have been obvious to me, since you cannot also craft any ascended items or get them exclusively with tokens that don't involve fractals in any way.

For the rings ... well, you need to do at least some of the starter level fractals to get those, but they are not really challenging content and making new content look appealing to everyone is acceptable I guess.

This also didn't kill all the dungeon running, people were just finished getting all the item skins and getting all the armor pieces and weapons they want and after that did't need to do any more dungeon since there is no improved and rare loot involved.
Open World was also never a thing other than dragons and other boss events or searching for Ori.

And you did argue in my favor when you said "It all but killed dungeon running", since the time when people get sick of running coops for nothing but keys ... which means nothing special and nothing at all in most cases. In Guild Wars you would at least get rare world drop orange pieces or tokens.

To get a little more specific on what loot tables are:
They could consist of a chance on a blue mod or a randomly generated blue weapon or one of 3-4 purple pieces that have at least partially fixed stats and a name and a very low chance of being upgraded to legendaries with one additional random stat.
If there would be hard modes the odds for purple weapons or orange versions would simply be a little higher.
How on earth does this upset item balance? Especially if you now can do the same with Arkfalls for shields and grenades to get people out into the open world.

ps: Open world is dead because there are usually no rewards worth doing things ... like emergencies for example. One key per emergency would draw people away from other content very efficiently and this all has nothing to do with coops.

pps: True raids are impossible without any type of direct interaction between players, at best the would be a complete zerg fest.

You can do a bunch of damage to top the rankings, but still only get 3-4keys, while others who realy contribute and play as a team get 5 keys but are at the bottom of the rankings.

Seems like trolling since you don´t even know what the maximum reward is.
Know or remember? My point is the amount varies.
The chart shows the damage you do during the event and it's not a far stretch to call this your contribution. Why are you quibbling about this healing and reviving stuff? I'm not in charge of arkfall rewards.

I've been 1st a couple times and when I do more then shoot and leave I end up in the top 10 usually. I've NEVER gotten 3 for that kind of performance.
