I remember that thread like it was yesterday. I held my tongue and refused to answer it since there were many before it that I chimed in on clearly. Lol
Why is it everytime an mmo comes out, this is such an issue? Lol.
Tbh, I think the ppl who question it, are the ones who are unconfortable in thier sexuallity. Why else bring up others gender specific issues ;p. Teehehe
Curiosity is just that sometimes.......... a deep curiosity(not referring to any1 specifically btw) just life in general
Bentu, you certainly have come a long way since then.![]()
I have a straight friend however who always plays female characters since the days of street fighter.
He grew up watching his mother be abused in many relationships and he does it because "its empowering" and he likes to see females kicking ***.
I am a male who plays one female toon - Tashinka (Irisa's misspelled nickname from the tv show); I have been called a crossdresser, tranny, Japanese prostitute among others (I don't get the connection); in case you haven't met me, I don't give a &^%$#@ what other people think (or don't think) or say. Be who you are and be true to yourself- spoiler - the toon is not really me
Alot of online games you tend to go through the character models. Alot of people will tell you that the male models look bland, or all around average - while the female character models tend to be more detailed. They have more options during character creation, and their outfits tend to be more detailed as well. It feels the same in the majority of mmo's these days. The attention to detail on the creation of the female model seems far superior to the male. I tend to make more males than females, but the distinction between the level of detail is pretty obvious.
You'll also see people playing female characters for this very reason as well. However, the outfits on some female characters are down right ridiculous. On some games a heavy set of armor has a male character covered head to toe in armor, while the female "heavy armor" consists of a leather bikini top, and a mini skirt made of chain links. So it's not too difficult when you find females playing male characters because they can't take it serious.
Regardless, either preference, attention to detail or whatever. People play whatever they choose. In an online game you should never assume a female character is a played by a girl, nor a male played by a male. People play games to escape reality so it's not too hard to imagine either way.
As long as people play the game and have fun, it doesn't bother me in the least to find out guys are playing females or what not.![]()
If you want to see a alternative male out fit look at the night porter.lol.my characters are all male because I feel outfitting a female avitar is a bit like playing with barbies and I'm a guy and to me a hetro guy playing with barbies is a bit norman bates ish.I also had long hair as a teen and grew tired of the dissapointed looks of other men when they would pass me in a car thinking I was a woman .so I cut it because I just dont like to be mistaken for something I am not.doesnt bother me if males have female avitars though.I assume most female avitars are men because there are less female game players.it does crack me up in chat when a guy starts chatting a person up because their avitar is female and find out its a guys character.
No I haven't, I'm exactly the self same person who posted that thread. It's just you've got to know me now.
At the time I didn't visit the forums that often and threads like these held no interest for me in the slightest so even if I had seen them I wouldn't of wasted my time reading them.
For those that don't know I'm a 51 year old male with 5 kids and asked a question which if I'd put more thought into I would of worded differently but it would of been the same question.
Some of the answers given were totally uncalled for and even personal attacks on me and yes I'm quite happy with my own sexual orientation.
My question was actually answered by the guy who necroed this thread.
Amazing who the haters actually turn out to be.
You know why I like this thread?
Conflict actually humanizes people and we get more of a feeling of just who we're dealing with. This site could use a lot more of that in general, because being an MMO community should be more than people sitting around discussing the rollouts of weapon x to the enth degree. Knowing you sad sacks personalizes a side of the game so people actually care to keep playing, otherwise, we might as well go solo and consider everyone else NPC.
I gathered that you were an old fart Bentu. You only have a decade or so on me, so don't feel too bad about it.
Since this has been a coming out and sharing thread: I'm a 38 yo single dad of a teenage girl, who I've raised on my own since she was a baby. I'm off the wall and outspoken, but that's only because I've grown tired of the mundane games and pleasantries people shield themselves with. Life is too short to go through the motions of trying to appease everyone and after a life of struggling to be myself, I refuse to be otherwise. I'll probably offend some of you eventually, don't take it personally.
I play a lot of shooters n RPGs, write poetry, read just about everything from Les Mis to quirky YA books and I'm a sap for Korean dramas, anime and think Lily M will win Kpop season 4.
As for the original topic: I couldn't give an ish who people toon as, or why. If you're good people, I'll like you. I've played as fems. I work with a drag queen. I've even let my daughter do my makeup and nails. In the end, who cares how it's all perceived? If what you do in life, makes you happy, then I have no right to judge otherwise. Just don't wear that blue/black/white/gold dress. I am tired of seeing that everywhere.
