I played it for a few hours last night, and got a priest (or whatever the class is called) to level 15.

My overall initial impression is that it's alright. I don't know how long I'll be able to last given the combat system isn't that much different then most of the other 'lock-on to target and spam hot keys' MMO games that are already out there. The ability to dodge kind of alleviates a bit of that, but overall it doesn't really seem like anything new. I DON'T like the GW2-esque lock box system, where you find boxes, but need to pay real money for the keys to unlock them. I'm hoping that there's some way to get the keys in-game that I just haven't seen yet.

As I hear skill respec costs a crap ton of money. Real money.
That doesn't sound too promising ... and my game doesn't work ... well, Neverwinter's telling me to go stick with Defiance I guess.

    Okay, here's my concern though...

Perfect World/Cryptic Studios. Those are the dudes that made Star Trek Online. That is not a good portfolio.

Actually ST:O eventually turned out to be pretty solid MMO after a while, it just started life as a turd!
Thing about Star Trek is, almost anything that has ever been made or will be made will be doomed as far as a considerably vocal subsection of geek fans are concerned..

Star Trek Online is actually a pretty good game now.

    anyhow...

I played about a half-hour so far. Got the Devoted Cleric class. Game runs decently on low settings on my non-gaming laptop (Core i3, Intel HD 3000). had some issues with the music stuttering but that is really it.

gameplay-wise, I think Neverwinter could possibly, if it gets popular enough, be the game that finally kills Tab-Targeting. which is a good thing for MMOs. TERA could have been that game, but it didn't catch on.

Going to try my hand with the Guardian Fighter. I'm usually not very good at tanking, but I wanna see if the action-focused combat makes a difference for my level of success in tanking.

I LOVE the Guardian Fighter. Active Blocking is great! They perfected the Tera style combat, made it more fluid, streamlined and less cumbersome.

Playing a rogue as well, he eats faces! Does that killer little teleport thing you see in the video. I may delete the guardian and try the Cleric as I love Tanking and healing and I hadn't realized there was a customize button the character creation screen.

That is a WONDERFULLY robust creation screen.
