After getting my BMG to 10, I'm going to +1 the comment about the telespanner with an extra link. Hugely useful. As you get higher EGO, the weapon XP to max out weapons gets higher, so you can use the best weapons you find longer.

I was only getting 3's roll off the Hellion a week or two ago. I haven't tried since, and I've got a dozen different BMGs I keep trying to compare for best return on my minute.
The Dark Matter have dropped several at Bug-n-Chug, and I can't help but pick 'em up.
Thanks for that.
If you see someone fighting a Forge or Hulker with a BMG, don't freaking rush in to kill it. Their trying to skill there weapon up and it's hard enough to do without every passerby killing the mobs on them.

You can level BMG very easily by playing Scrapwork Salvage co-op map. Use Overcharge with Gun Slinger and Height Advantage and go for Critical attack streams against the robots in second part of that.
You should be getting 200-300 damage per tick on the flying-bots when they land and expose their red center and similar for the Forge units when you are shooting their front-eye.
Aside from doing it via the co-op map, you can just roam San Francisco for the same types of enemies and Max level your BMG there.
The only level 3 combat pursuit that isn't too big of a grind is the assault rifle one. Leveling infectors is easy enough at SQ or at twin bridge farm. If the level 3 combat pursuits gave 40 EGO instead of 15 I would grind them out, but level 10 with BMG or rapid shot snipers is just a waste of time.
I think I have reached a point with the game that all I have left to do is time sucking grind pursuits. PvP, daily contract, buy 10 items from a vendor, and last and most sad, social pursuits.
At EGO 2100 I don't really care anymore. I have my 7 perks. that's good enough for me. considering I won't get perk slot 8 until EGO 3000. Any player really only NEEDS 3 perk slots to be as effective as anybody in the game. Regeneration, Rear Guard, and Fortitude. Everything else that we grind out EGO for is just extra frosting on the cake.

Figure what you want to do more.... heal... or kill
THEN MOD IT!!!
there is BMG devoted to either healing or damage...
There's mods that reduces the usage charge for damage or healing
There's mods that increases the healing, and ones that increases the damage (both lowers the other)
There's even mods that increases the charge percentage or recharge rate....
Other then modding....
Healing.... try co-ops... or arkfalls (the only 2 best locations sadly, and leveling up via damage does not work here)
Damage..... Sieges, Anything with a boat load of HP (better get used to dodging), Head first crater (north-east of bug and catch), and finally.... Emergencies... (drive around... find one... jump out... kill... level both ego and weapon)
If you do emergencies... please note you can only level your ego (lower yellow experience bar) 240 times (ego 2400).... Each bar filled with give you 1 ego perk point, and 10 ego levels.
