Help - How to Make a Deadly Sniper?

I just started to play Defiance last night, and went with the Survivalist. I love the sniper rifle.

My goal is to make that perfect assassin style sniper. Hard to find, deadly shot, etc.

I want to ensure I am choosing the right skills, weapons, etc. I would love any pointers or suggestions.

    Thanks all!

The perks around Cloak are generally sniper friendly. I wouldn't worry about getting the a good sniper rifle at the start because you will need to go through so many of them just to level your skill up. I hoard sniper rifles I don't even like just for skill grinding. My tip would be to not use one that has the electric element. It tends to make the enemies twitch and spaz out, making it harder to line up head shots.

At present there's no such thing as hard to find.. once one enemy knows where you are, they all know! Instantly

That said, I have a couple of sniper builds, one I call my Assault Sniper which is based around the Overcharge Skill.. then I have my 'Stealth Sniper' which is based around Cloak.

They're incapacitated while twitching which means you can kill easy w/o a headshot. Though maybe you want the time to shoot at others that may be shooting at you.

Thing is that as of now, there is no hit and run sniping in this game. You cant snipe and remain hidden, or snipe and run off. Cloak time is very limited even with bonuses, so staying cloaked and killing for an extended amount of time is not possible.

There are a few ego boosts that can be combined to help. A few that comes to mind are extra damage while crouched, extra damage while stealth, extra damage if you are higher then your target, extra damage if your target is running toward yo, extra damage if your target is out of combat.

I have cleared entire camps of raiders before without alerting them which made being s sniper a lot of fun. There are however situations where your sniper rifle is worthless so don't forget to carry back up in the form of your second favorite weapon.

..Yea, ok. First of all, like a few mentioned the AI in this game acts a lot like how the pvp radar works. Once you've shot at an enemy they all 'realize' you're there and start advancing on you. That said, however, if you're using the cloak ego power then they will switch back to 'search' mode after you're innitial shot and recloaking.

I would suggest working on getting to 400 EGO rating that way you can max Cloaks - rech time, aswell as looking into both the perk that allows for a few more seconds shaved off the total rech and the perk that allows for cloak to go from 15 second active to 21 seconds. After that there are some decent perks that can give you a mini buff to increased rech/duration as you dmg an enemy.

I would also suggest taking an afternoon and just looking at all the perks that are locked off and plan out which ones look good for you down the road and grab the perks you can get easily to rank 3 while using stray ego points to path your way off to those opposite ended perks near overboost and such.

Finally, depending on whether your looking for just pve build or pvp build, choose the right style of rifle for you. As far as the ones with the shock nano effect, I agree that they suck if you're all about ventillating craniums. The jittering makes it a PitA. I prefer the fire nano effect in pvp only cuz' it helps deal with shotty cloakers when they run off after you've dropped their shield and about half hp.

I can't really go much farther as I'm only in the mid-400's EGO rating wise. Hope this helps ya'.

Votan Sniper Rifle, 1200 script, and often has a special attack added on. You can buy these from the vendor north of Demon Ranch.

These have the least amount of bloom, which means you can hip fire them fairly accurately and rack up kills without having to switch to a close quarters gun.

Best load out I've played with is a Votan main, SAW secondary. I prefer pistols, but really the saw does everything the sniper rifle does not.

Another fun thing to do is pick up intemidation, gives you +75% damage to a flinching mob, a use a semi-auto sniper rifle. The first hit will make them flinch, if you crit on a flinch, then they are toast.

I go one of two routes.

    Q
    1. Max dmg sniper with crit mod. Go for max decoy, reduced decoy time, increased reload speed while standing, increased crit while crouched. Then you can toss in decreased damage while standing still and also increased crit while they are running towards you.

    2. Semi auto sniper and same as above except add in increased dmg while flinching. (Tap to the body tap to the head, they are dead)

I find decoy better than cloak as usually if i am using my power its because i am in trouble. So decoy takes them off me and half the time they stand there all stupid like and it is free headshots. You could even throw reduced recharge time on full reload.

If you play with a shotty as secondary the increased damage while flinching is very nice. Just melee them then shoot them with shotty and they go down fast.

Just my choices, up to you personally what you like.

Would I be able to see your build around "Cloak"? That is what started.

I noticed the "instant" spotting during the game. lol That said, I am more or less RPing in my head and would prefer to be the unseen sniper...until discovered

    Thanks!
