I assume there is going to be some sort of fix, I depressingly expect ( as there has been before ) an ETA released that will say something like " 5 hours " and then have it extended to " 9 hours " then find out I had a 24 hour roll back to deal with. So let's review what I lost as a result of this problem.
3923 Sniper Kills
2703 Combat Shotgun Kills
918 Major Arkfall Kills ( after a reset over 700 that I accepted once already, and likely have accepted more than once until I actively started keeping track when I started looking for the pursuit )
44,000+ kills For living to kill 5
I'm deeply glad I had already finished the Assault Rifle Kills and LMG kills
Now let's see what I'll lose with a roll back of 24 hours
about 500 kills in Combat Shotguns
3-4 levels in Combat shotguns
3-4 levels in sawed off shotguns
3 levels in SMG
2 levels in BMG
3 EGO levels
So essentially this is a lose for me no matter what, even if we didn't take into account the downtime that may or may not happen, but seems likely due to the track record, of 5 to 9 hours, and the loss of advancement that could take place in that time.
Now for some people 60 dollars isn't a relatively a lot of money, that's fine, and I don't begrudge them that, however without going into my life story I'm on a fixed income from my military service due to being disabled. I had to deeply research my financial situation before I decided to buy the game, because after participating in the beta, I decided that for a continued source of therapeutic recreation ( I am unable to walk or travel easily anymore, again due to my disability ) that I could enjoy from my home. My physical therapist as well as my psychologist both agreed with my assertion and after all of this, I decided to budget and then buy this game. Now not everyone has had to go through that much rigorous thought in purchasing this game, and I am not attempting to create a false lack of equivalency between myself and those people, I am attempting to explain to the degree that some members of the Defiance community have gone to, a small minority perhaps, in order to become part of that community.
The point of the lengthy and perhaps dull paragraph above is this. I have no doubt that there are people who are literally wealthy by accident of birth, and are outraged based on principle all the way down the spectrum to people who bought this game under situations even more severe than myself. Trion must of course treat all of these customers in the same way, with the same respect, and to the same level of competence. It should be spelled out, exactly, for the benefit of the community and Trion itself, that you must look directly at your customers and read and understand who your customers are, and face the reality that we the community do exist and are members for a variety of reasons but I no longer am able to stand behind the veil and grant Trion the right to not know the sheer amount of distress, anger, sorrow, and pain that the continued release of patches that continue to cause distress, anger, sorrow and pain over and over again they inflict upon the community of Defiance.
Simply put, I no longer feel that Trion should not feel free of guilt and shame at their mistakes, which I can no longer defend for them. The community of Defiance deserves better, much better, and promises of learning from past mistakes have in my mind have been proven false. My patience, considered by many to be one of my greatest virtues, has run out.
I am sorry, but I feel I have lived up to my end of the unspoken bargain between Trion and myself, not as client and service provider, but as community member and community provider, in the same way as someone who rents a property in the physical world would be under the expectation that the land owner would maintain that property and not let it fall into a state of continual disrepair. If the analogy of the rental property were to be applied to Trion, the laws of the United States would certainly side with any renter in a civil matter, and depending on the state of disrepair might even be subject to criminal charges.
Of course no such laws apply to the virtual world of Defiance, and so the staff of Trion is not subject to any such constrictions, but I think it is telling that if they were selling a physical world and not a virtual world they would not only be subject to civil liability under the law, but possibly criminal liability. I hope that thought dwells upon the Trion staff more than I have a feeling it does, but I want to hammer this point home to the Trion Staff.
Just because you're selling a virtual product and not a physical one, does not make you morally superior in any way than a person who under the latter case would be considered a criminal. Your legal standing may protect you from the fate of your physical world counterpart, but it does not protect you from the moral state of that same counterpart.
